    Default cheap canoe first build

Well to start this off i decided to build a canoe to improve my self confidence and i wanted a design that was cheap and easy to build so after searching the internet for some cheap plans i cam across these free plans and i thought that it looked ok for a first build so i purchased 2 sheets of 6mm ply and got to work setting it up on my workshop floor (its good having a timber floor to hammer nails into to hold things where you want them to stay)

Next i started to mark out the lines on the sheets of ply

After i had it all marked out i needed some help to carry the ply to the next room in my workshop where i could cut it out

Ok moving ahead with this little project i had to glue the but blocks down and i found a tool box was the perfect size and weight to hold it all down
(must have missed the pic of the toolbox)

Anyhow after a few hours waiting for the glue to set i was able to start making it look like a canoe

Then i had to move it on to my table to make it easier to work on and i finished putting the "duct tape" on it to hold the panels together

And i ran a bead of glue around all the seams and this is how it sits as of now

The glue that i used was SELLEYS AQUADHERE DURABOND has anyone else ever used this glue??

You bet, I was just trolling for more build threads over there, we love pictures!

Also, I need to know what that frame fits under. I've spent a lot of time working in a restorations shop and now doing them on the side and things like that can't be left unanswered

Gonna have to google a suzuki sierra and see what we call that over here or if we even get them here

Sounds like your Dad has quite the collection. My personal collection is rather unimpressive; a 1965 Impala SS, a 1949 Dodge 2 door sedan and a 1971 Cheyenne pickup. The ones I worked on in the shop were much more impressive, some oof them went on to sale at Barrett-Jackson for stupid insane amounts of money (too bad I wasn't the seller)

the glue is a poly-urethane and i got it from my brother who is a cabinet maker (they use it and it will pull the grains of timber apart before the glue lets go) and since it will be completely sealed when painted there wont be a chance for moisture to get into the timber or glue to affect it and the glue is supposedly moisture activated and waterproof

the glue i used is made for marine fitout (so it claims on the bottle) and as for wetting out fiberglass tape im not silly enough to try. i am going to be using epoxy fillets and fiberglassing it properly so any strength lost with the poly-urethane will be gained by the fiberglass when i put it on

there will be a battery for the electric outboard up front so i think that will weigh the front down just nicely and it is also the reason i added these on the bottom to try and help with the tracking

it is all a learning curve for me at the moment but the areas i intend to use it (shallow creeks etc) it should be ok
