    Default rain dog

so weird to have a dog with an aversion to water. not just to swimming, but a light drizzle.

he is not coming out until i reach the barn and leave the door open for him. gonna be a long winter, dog.

The cat looks a bit disgusted with the notion of being stuck in the house with the dog for the winter.

if he was a lab, that would be especially crazy.

We have one with a human sized head and eyes, barely concealing what appears to be a human-like soul; and the other with guinea pig eyes that do nothing to hide the demon behind them. Do you even HAVE pupils, you Devil?

I’m not sure which melts my heart more?

LW, there is another aspect to that photograph. It shows a house well-lived-in. It shows a floor that has been trodden and a chair that is used daily. It looks very inviting, although Rain Dog looks like he wants me to stay out!

Our black lab / german shepherd wouldn't go out into the rain for the first five years or so. She's 10-ish now and will go out into the yard and nap through a downpour. She's the DGAF dog. Anything to get outside.

When I was a kid, I spent summers and almost every winter weekend living in a bare studs cottage. I loved it there and I've never felt as much at home as I did there.

    He's a handsome boy alright.

With a tentative paw, prickly pear of a paw, wanting to be led outside.

    What a beautiful boy.

He is an upland game dog! Water is not his element!

I have had the pleasure of being a personal servant to a few gun dogs. None of them fans of water!

Our cat steals my wife's chair all the time and she is too much of a sweetheart to kick him off. The silly cat never goes near my chair or me for that matter. He still hasn't forgiven me for taking him to the vet and getting fixed ten years ago.

We had an English Setter that couldn't swim.....absolute panic mode in water.
Our English Pointer on the other hand loved being in the water...especially with us.

Had a beagle like that. On the leash, would crawl down my dock like a Marine making a beachhead.

Our Border Collie doesn't like the rain or Swimming.. If there is a hint of drizzle, he stands in the doorway peering out, deciding how desperate he is..

So much for a roughy toughy Sheep dog..
    Just an amateur bodging away..

Handsome critter, Lee. Our now long gone hero dog Yuffy was a lab-boxer mix who was unwilling to enter the water at all. Great dog though. Looked very much like your guy.
One of the most enduring qualities of an old wooden boat is the smell it imparts to your clothing.

haven't tested his capacity, but i do crack an egg on his breakfast every morning. he likes to steal eggs so much, why fight it.

i hum the rocky theme as he eats, naturally.

Our previous dog, Caramel, was a yellow Lab / Duck Toller mix, two breeds that find water irresistible. Caramel could find water in a desert, and lay down in it - sea water, lake water, river water, pond water, mud puddle water; it didn't matter - she would find it and lay in it faster than you could yell "Caramel! No!" But rain? Hell no; wouldn't stick her nose out in it. We have memories, that make us laugh every time, of her going out the back door for a pee when it was raining and pressing herself against the side of the house as she walked from the doorstep to the carport in an attempt to stay in the rain-shadow of the eaves of the house.
