    Default Woody The Boat

    Hi All,
I posted this to the Jericho Bay Lobster Skiff thread and Breakaway suggeted I start a new thread, so here goes.
I'm new to the forum, and building my first boat... a Jericho Bay Lobster Skiff. She's made of Phillipine Mahogany bead & cove, and I'm pulling her off of the mold and flipping her over this weekend... woo-hoo! Here's a link to the web site my wife created to keep friends & family up to date... www.woodytheboat.com
I'll also post to this thread as I tackle the inside of the hull and interior finishing, hope you enjoy it.
I welcome any creative criticism... so let me have it!
    Thanks,
    Woodytheboat

Welcome aboard Woody. The resources available to us through the WBF are astounding. Use them wisely but be sure to sift through the chaff.

Wow! Nice build. Photo's seem to show maybe 1/2" radi on the millwork? Any problems turning the bildge with that much stock resting against the station molds? I'm close to ready to start millwork for my first build and had planned to use 3/4" radis on 1/2" stock but my test runs are leaving really thin edges that want to break easily. I have a very old set of plans that call for the 3/4"radis and I wanted to follow these plans as close as possible, however if there's a better way i'm all ears.

Yes, the strips are 1/2 x 1" with full (1/4") radii. There were feather edges, but by the time I faired the whole hull the joints were nice and solid. I'm actually glad I had such a tight radius because it did a great job holding the six10 epoxy from dripping out (even on the bottom) since I had to do the stripping work by myself. Turning the bilge was a bit of a challenge not at the stern, but near the bow because of all the twist.

    We did it!
We pulled Woody from the mold and flipped her over with the help of many wonderful friends!
Now the fun begins again, loads of sanding, fairing, glassing, fairing, varnishing, yada yada yada...
    I love boatbuilding!

The photos are too big to upload here (I must be doing something wrong), so please go to www.woodytheboat.com if you'd like to see the big event.
    Thanks,

Here's how to post photos on this forum:

FIRST - Don't attach photos. Only a tiny version will display.

SECOND - Post the photos on the web. Use your own website or a free image hosting service like www.flickr.com, picturetrail, photobucket, etc.

Once posted on the web, right-click the photo to "Copy Image Location", or drag the photo to another browser window, then copy the image URL (web address) which will end in ".jpg". You can test by pasting the photo URL into the location field (http://* ) of a web browser and see if the photo displays. Remember that this process will not work for photos only located on your computer, or uploaded to members-only Yahoo groups.

(In Flickr - You usually have to first click the photo to bring up the black-framed viewer, then click the "View All Sizes" link near the top right. Then you can get the image URL by right-clicking the image. Alternately you can go to the Actions menu on the upper left, then select "View All Sizes". If you don't want the largest size (displayed) you can then click another option in the "Available sizes" links above the image.)

THIRD - ONE TIME PROCEDURE TO SET UP ENHANCED INTERFACE:
    1. Click the "Private Messages" link in the browser window in the top left of the menu bar.
    2. Click the "General Settings" link about 2/3 down the left column under "My Account".
    3. At the bottom of the next page in "Misc Options", select "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing" from the Message Editor Interface options. Click the Save Changes button.

FOURTH - DO THIS EVERY TIME TO POST IMAGES IN THREADS:
    A. Once the above Enhanced Interface has been set up, in any "Reply" window you can click the "insert image" icon --> a little yellow square icon with a dot at each corner, a tiny tree in the center.

Depending on browser version and Reply/Edit status, this may bring up a simple window to paste the URL into, or the "Add an Image" window described below.

    B. If the window titled "Add an Image" comes up, click the "From URL" tab, paste the URL of the photo in the field, deselect the box for "Retrieve remote file and reference locally", then click the "INSERT IMAGE" button. The Forum software will resize some large images, so look at your post to see the actual displayed images.

YouTube video on how to select the image URL in Firefox, navigate the "Add an Image" tabs and paste the image URL -

Looks great Woody, you might say we're in the same boat in the same place. About the only difference is I used white cedar, stretched the length to 16'2" and was fortunate to come into a large supply of 16 oz. kevlar cloth. Would be interested in your plans to finish the interior. My use will be primairly for fishing so planning on a floor, raised fwd deck, small center console and possibly some side storage. Please feel free to E-mail me and perhaps we could exchange some ideas.
Had the honor of talking to Aaron Porter over the weekend at the Maine Boatbuilders show, one of my early on concerns with the boat looking shallow based on the pictures and video's with him in them was resolved, would guess he's 6' 6"+.
