I envy you all who really knew him. He was the guy that I would have come to Mystic for, sought to shake his hand and signed up to listen to stories until he got tired of telling them. Fair Winds Chuck

Just one photo and a lot of posts to remind me of a great man, and still it hurts.
Condolences to all of his friends.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

I don't have the words, just emotions right now. He was larger than life, and it was an honor to have meet him.

My condolences to his family and many friends.

In fact, if you can saw a penciled line, apply glue, drive nails, and bring a modest measure of patience to the task, you can build and launch a smart and able craft in as few as 40 work hours. You need not be driven by lack of tools, materials, skills, or time to abandon in frustration a project you conceived in a spirit of pleasurable anticipation.

I'm hopeful he's transitioned to a new vantage point where he will be even more help to us than he was in the past.

We can memorialize Chuck at Mystic. As with most everything on the Forum, it will be our initiative and our party. No need to make a deal about it to all the non-Forum folk at the show. Let's see who has a boat in during the show (I can't as will still be healing, but could drive down for this) and just set a time for our own parade and EBS. This is something that in the spirit of the Paladin really should be self-initiated, not seeking sanction.

Edited to add - Oops - My Dad's family (He's the last of his generation and thus the very senior McColgin) is flying in for a major reunion that weekend. I will not be able to even glance at the show. So sorry.

Bobby, hang in there. Don't dwell on things, try to keep going as normal as possible. Try to keep your significant other at ease. I do not speak of the subject with my siblings, just try to take care of any necessary "business" in advance. The less you think about it the smoother your life will be. You only have a short visit on this earthly veil of tears, make the most of it.

Ian when I checked on docking at Mystic is was close to 9 dollars a foot..I can not afford that but many of the boats shown were for sale.. and the mooring field was small. I'll go by foot/car this time.

A good man gone. As much as we'll miss him, at least we got to know him here. Having missed Meerkat by a few weeks when I joined the WBF, I think of the folks who join "after Chuck" and never get to experience that tremendous heart.

    RIP and fair winds.

I know he's been flirting with death (to read his stories) for almost as long as he lived. Still, it gave one a sense that nothing could ever really stop him.

Farewell, Chuck. It was an honor to know you.

Unreal. No, no, no, no. Can't be.

He seemed to have at least 7 lives more to go. Where did they all vanish to so fast.

He was a stone-cold character and a great guy. When I was in the hospital last week he was trying to send me food--so I could have a decent meal during my stay....

What an interesting man! When they built you, buddy--they broke the mold.

Very sorry to hear. I never met him, but from what he shared here, he was the real deal when it came to boats, sailing, and all kinds of real life adventures.

Fair winds and following seas, Chuck. Here's hopin' that you're meeting up with Meerkat, Norm, Ken, and all those that have crossed over before.

I never met the man, but always thought that it would be a great time to just sit and listen to him tell his stories. Based on what he wrote here, he had more than a dozen books worth of tales and adventures, and I was always tempted after reading his posts to relpy with a "man, you should write a book!" Alas, it's now too late for any of that.

I'm not a religious guy, but I believe that if there's a heaven, it consists of the fond memories of you in the minds of those you've encoutered and touched during your lifetime. If that's true, then Chuck is truly in heaven.

He lived large and well. He loved this place. It kept him company and he kept us company. So many here are familiar with his generosity and his greatness of spirit. I owe him a debt I have no hope to repay. No doubt many here do. Just look at his list of friends; it is everyone. I never met him in person, but just like so many here, I had many conversations through e-mail, phone and PM. He had time for everybody who had interest. The best of this place came to him and through him.

Well done, Chuck, it will all be fine and this is no surprise, but there's another hole in our hearts we are going to have to learn to live with.
