    Default Monument River Wherry ?

As I continue to do research on pulling boats I keep reading about Jonathan Aborn's Monument River Wherry , and how fast it is etc. I have never been able to find very much information about it, or even pictures or line drawings. Are plans available for it? Is it really that fast?

    Thanks for the help.

I've never heard of that one. Regional?

Edited to add: I googled it too and can't find any pictures either.

Jon lives in Bourne Mass. He can be found at most of the East Coast rowing events. The Snow Row in Hull is March 19. He also had an ad posted in Messing About In Boats, January issue I believe, selling a Middle Path Skua. It has his phone or PM me and I'll find it.

So is it something on the same order of magnitude as a Skua? Those are supposed to be pretty nice, though I've not seen one in person.

I was scheduled to go gig rowing this morning actually, but we got about 6 inches of snow (and still falling) and all those other guys wussed out. Okay, I admit I totally wussed out too.

Jon is in the boat in the foreground. It is a monument River Wherry, his own design.

The Monument River Wherry is a 17' double chine, double-ended, lightweight, plywood pulling boat that I designed. The first version was built about 20 years ago and after rowing that one for a while I whittled away at the half model and built a second version with finer lines which I presently row. It is reasonably fast and rows and handles very well. With floatation under both decks, fore and aft, I also believe it to be a safe boat for open water.
I used to win a lot of races with it but I'm not quite as fast as I used to be. It will give the Guideboats good competition with a comparable rower.
I consider the design for this boat to be in the public domain and have provided the offsets and building details to many interested rowers. There have been one or two boats built that I know of.
I can provide a copy of the table of offsets and a page of construction details to anyone interested. I may be able to dig up a picture to send along. e-mail me at joneaborn@aol.com
