If you folks have room for one more than I would also like to be part of this get together.
I am even willing to host at my place on the water in Gloucester. I am 5 miles north of the York River Bridge just off Route 17, Convenient to I 64. The Waterman’s Museum in Yorktown and The Virginia Institute for Marine Science are just minutes away.

The antique tool sale is at the Showplace in Mechanicsville next weekend, the 19th and 20th. I'll be there.

    Eddie -

Which day do you plan on attending? I might be able to squeeze in a visit.

Ed, selling or buying? Always looking for boatbuilding hand tools, especially some planking chain clamps.

I'll probably be there Sat. am, just attending/buying. The venders tend to be the same bunch year after year. I don't see many specific boatbuilding tools there. 2 or 3 of them do carry high end original woodworking tools, one guy is all machine stuff, others are the typical yard sail toolers. It's a good place to get some basic stuff if you don't have much of it. Or if you want a pricey high end item you might find what you're looking for. You never know, that's one reason I like to go. I'm only a hour away. I wouldn't drive 3 hrs both ways to attend this one.
I'll be wearing a blue, Bevans' Oyster Co. sweatshirt with a deadrise boat on the front.

I didn't see any of you there yesterday. It was a small crowd. The venders were looking to sell. I didn't even haggle over the price of a few items and the venders knocked off a few bucks. I indulged myself in a lignum vitae razee foreplane and a rosewood/iron/brass square-18" inside the beam no less.

Yeah, I had sorta thought about going, but I had too many other things to do this weekend. I used to go every year, but after a while, I realized I rarely bought anything at all, because there really isn't anything I need and I've resolved not to be a tool hoarder just for the sake of having more tools - and also my weekends are the only time I have to really try to get something done on all my various projects.

I hear you, Bill. I didn't NEED anything that I bought. I only do this once a year. I probably shouldn't go.

I can resist anything except temptation.

I stopped in around 2pm after duck hunting in the morning.... picked up a hand brace for $5, and set of new in the box tapered screw drill bits with countersinks and collars for another $5. Now I need a set of augers for the brace, so searching eBay. Have screw driver bits for it already. The Patina Show in MD is much better and worth the drive. March 16th I believe this year....

In regard to “I like Rust” Save a Skipjack thread:

Is there any interest among the Virginia contingent of this forum to form a syndicate to save and restore this boat or one like it?
I would be willing to provide yard space, electricity and dockage in Gloucester Va.

^ So, How did it go? I would have liked to attend, but there's just too much going on right now. The decoy show in Havre de Grace was this weekend, too. I didn't make that either. I've got family visiting this week for my mom's birthday. Lots of work to do before the weather gets hot and the mayflies come out. My boat is in the water for the season. Graduation this weekend.....it's supposed to rain all week....Yikes!

    Well Eddie,

    Something like this...

We had a delightful weekend at the festival. Lots of old engines to look at. Plenty of people came through the Museum, so it was a great success tor them. And Miss Sue got to sit in the the boat basin all weekend with her Aunt, the Sewell draketail.

We put more distance on the boat than any time previously. Still dialing in the cooling system, but all seems to be working better. She handled a mild chop on the Patuxent River very nicely. Fun to motor around in...

Eddie, I made it to Havre de Grace on Saturday... enjoyed the decoy show, and the War of 1812 festivities going on too. Managed to buy only 1 decoy! Was most interested in researching a new boat I picked up for restoration... an early 1900s lapstrake and copper riveted Susquehanna Sneak boat. After research, I am pretty sure she is a "roll up". To add to the restoration, I made a great CL find. A 1938 Neptune 2hp. Basement stored for the past 40 years....after a day of disassemble, cleaning and reassemble, I got her running and starting easily! Now to start on removing the many layers of paint on the boat!

^ Well, look at that boat/motor! Where are you, Dave? What decoy did you buy? I'm making some dove decoys right now. I guess I need to get a better trailer so I can take Katie-K-II to some of these cool events. Dang, something else to pay taxes on.

Eddie, bought a nice wood Bufflehead Drake. Not a collector, this is a hunting stool. I prefer to hunt over wood, cork and foam.... replaced all the plastic for the most part in my rig. I prefer the old school as is evident by my boat selections too!

My hunting boat is a refurbished Sam Hunt BBSB. Probably some 70 or 80 years old....finished it 2 years ago, and finished the sail rig last year. Took 2nd place at Tuckerton in the Sailing BBSB restoration class, and 2nd in the authentic Hunting class.
