    Question

I have a customer who wants a dory, about 14' primarily for rowing but would also like an engine well installed for a low HP outboard. I'm thinking about a dory with a fairly narrow transom and a handsome sheer, preferrably with a garboard that I can get out of non-ply material. I realize I'm asking a lot, I appreciate any help.

The Rockland (Maine) Apprenticeshop has a design for a 14-15' Banks type dory that might be altered to suit your motor well needs. They had one partially finished in September of last year that an intern had worked on.

Good luck, and welcome to the Forum!

    P.S. Did you attend Harvard?

The folks at The Dory Shop in Lunenburg, N.S. have a 14' bottom length Banks dory that they put a dory style well in. The well looks very similar to the well in John Gardner's The Dory Book. I also think you can find a Banks dory in that book with very nearly a 14' bottom.

Let us know what you find.
