    Default Wee Rob Handling

Is there any one out there who has paddled a Wee Rob canoe? How does it handle? Was it the 12 foot version & if so what would be the load limit? How stable was it?

Im about to start building and am wondering if I should stretch it out to 16ft.

Missed this before, I have a 15'7" decked Macgreggor and paddle it with single and double paddles, and row it and it's very good to row indeed. With a double paddle it performs creditably in a surf up to 1m but it's fast and you have to be on your toes.

The lack of response = the lack of info provided. Are you 300lbs and paddling through surf, or 110lbs and crossing the duckpond? Carrying full camping gear or just a sandwich? And handling compared to what?

    Hi there

I am 100kg (220lbs) and have friends to like to paddle out to watch water birds in their kayaks carrying some lunch, drinking water binoculars etc. The Wee Rob plans specifically state that the stations can be set to build the 12ft, 14ft or 16ft and I was planning to build the 14ft unless I can get specific advice that the 16ft would be better suited for my "load" requirements. The MacGregor canoe is a couple of inches wider than the Wee Rob so Im glad to hear it paddles well enough and I wonder how manouverable it is. Would you consider going out with out a rudder?

Thinker. I built a 13' MacGregor canoe several years ago. I usually paddled a kayak, so I found the MacGregor slow, using a double paddle. If I was to build another I would build one of the longer versions. I weigh 180 pounds.

That sounds like first hand experience! 16ft it is then.
