After an hour thereabouts up there and back on deck I found that very inconveniently, I was incapable of walking properly.
Not only that but the improvement in blood flow became extremely painful. Subsequent conversations with doctor /nursey/ para type friends has educated me into the fact that is normal rather than just "old", so that's a bonus.

That was comforting until you found out that old is normal.

I'm being Phil now, doing some deck work. Lifted a couple of teak strips that were showing signs of partial delamination from the sub deck in the cockpit .... Pristine ply under, which was nice to see. So I'm just replacing the teak and regrooving that section, should get another decade or so.

I replaced a few strips of teak in the cockpit bridge deck, grooved out the rest and re did the sika. Forget the teak cost. Forget the epoxy cost, and forget the time and labour, 3 tubes of sika cost 120 bucks and this is for one piddly little 1m x 500 mm section. Something is out of balance here, the usual old greed of markup on markup. I'm going off those people.

On to another job it is then.....wooding the cabin coamings, yay.

Pretty fierce weather here so it's been onto indoor jobs.

Broken into components that's a heavy towing bridle with pipe chafe protection, I eye spliced the boat ends to loop over winches and I'll tie short lanyards onto a loop and winch one side forward for angling the bridle for quartering.
100 meters of 16mm , I just need 3m of chain and some shackles.
The dilemma now is whether there should be a swivel. I don't like em or trust them, some people have them on a drogue, some don't.

We just cleared, we're all clear, we're clearing on outa here.
Minerva reefs first stop if we dont get too headed. 800 nm or so. Lightish winds forecasted for a change...hey we ain't leaving in a gale for a change. Once at minerva it's a left bend off for Fiji.

Knowing JB there'd be Riada of course, an inflatable, a couple of SUP s and maybe the stripper, but probably not. Oh you mean other big boats? I think everyone in NZ sails up to the Islands around now.

Well, last time Riada went to Fiji they were part of a fleet of several boats. I just wonder if they're doing it the same way this time. I think it's a nice idea - going into places like Minerva Reef with a few other boats.

Looks like Riada is going to pick up nice SW - S winds from Tuesday night through to at least Sunday so that ought to be pretty good!

Headwinds now (about 2 pm NZ time, Tuesday) but the S winds should kick in early tomorrow morning. Now looks like it'll be SW then W then S then SE all the way to Fiji if the forecast holds. I reckon the day or so of W will be very welcome! I've no idea how any of that might affect time at Minerva Reef though. The swell and wind waves should be running about 2-3m where they are and they're likely to have that for the next few days too. I don't know how that might affect landing at Minerva either. It's going to be interesting to hear about that.

How does that boat, loaded up for cruising, do 5.5 knots in 6 knots of wind?

Who knows what it's really like out there now but it looks like a dream run windwise. The wind's supposed to swing from SW to S over the weekend then it goes SE. I hope it's as good as it looks! It does look like it gets up a bit next week though. I remember JB complaining that he got sick of 25-30 day after day up there .... well, it does look a bit that way later next week.

25-30 is pretty wearing, but I recall from PNG the Trades are not gentle, just consistent.

They've picked up a nice fresh tail wind now.

Riada's been travelling at between 7.5 and 8.5 all day today. I hope it's as nice as it seems!

Still looking perfect. SW between 10 and 20 as far as the eye can see and 8 knots showing. Couldn't be happier I'd say. I wonder if they've cracked out the mizzens staysail.

On the move again. Very light wind. Not sure on my phone screen whether they are just repositioning within Minerva or back out there.

Oh boy I wish I was there I love lobster. Then again I would probably be divorced so might just have to wait for our next cruise aboard something with a proper dining room.
