Yes, well, that's frustrating. I'd like a Yanmar but they only make motors the size of small block Chevrolets now, nearly 6 inches wider than normal 4 cyl diesels.

That leaves Nanni, Beta, Volvo.
If there's another alternative not common rail , please let me know.
60 hp min, 70 to 75 is an option.

People I know with Volvos swear they'd never get another, mainly due to the very high cost of parts. Nanni and Beta are both Kubotas - don't hear much criticism of them. Neil's a Nanni fan, I think. I'm happy with the Nanni but I don't know anything about engines.

I don't know of vetus or Isuzu having a marinised motor here but I'll keep an ear out.
Lombardini is common rail and I think that's not a wise option considering fuel quality or potential for poorer fuel in the Pacific.

Yes,... the green death is known for that. It's a shibura base engine I think, we may have discussed that before.
The marine engine business has changed here, It used to be like buying a car.. you went into a showroom , looked at a few, chose one and bought it.
No stock now.....have to look at pictures ,choose something and buy with a lead of 12 weeks or so. Plus or minus with covid factor.

Its funny the anti volvo sentiment out there, a bit like Lucas and the prince of darkness, not sure there's anything in it.
I have friends who own them and have no problems, just the parts and multi markups as mentioned above.

Out of the beta and nanni marinisations on the same base kubota motor the perception is the beta marinised in JOE is superior to the French Nanni. Seems to be a common theme although I'm not sure why. Yet.

My Santana still has its original MD7A. When the fuel pump died I had to send to Haiga Sofia Bulgaria to get a decent replacement. Too old for Volvo to support domestically.

I've been bodging up the motor, it seems to go and run cool, too cool now. Hopefully it'll get us through summer.
Caught a fish, caught up with some buddies. Home alone as family is visiting grandies via aeroplane to another island.

Cloud formation saying keep an eye out in a day or two. Which was right.
It's an interesting place that not many boats go to, about 20 or 30 minutes from our berth. So a quick trip back for me.
At 7 and 8 knots under power testing it. Go figure.

Tall ships and classics race, which we didn't do, top mark. Nocturne , a 26 ft Townson calling buoy room on Aorere the 1892 ish Logan and the big cruiser, I forget it's name.
They ended up doing buffalo girls and went round the outside.

Friends owned that boat for a decade or two and did all sorts of events from classic races to the coastal classic all comers phrf ,and two handed series, good to see it still out doing it.
About three years ago they sold it to go cruising, bought a 39 ft steel boat.
I think the big cruiser is an Alden, from memory.

The cruiser looks like a Pearson 44, which I think was an Alden design..
