    Default lapstrake Whitehall plans

I would like to build a Whitehall, 15'-17', lapstrake, not carvel planked, but so far have not found a set of plans and patterns. I have a copy of Gardner's "Building Classic Small Craft", and while this will be very helpful, I really need a step by step with patterns if possible. I know there are plans out there somewhere, and someone can point me in the right direction.

I have a very detailed set for the 16 foot Ship Chandler's Boat in American Small Craft. I lofted the lines and built the boat so I know the lines are very fair.

Take a look at Iain Oughtred's Acorn 15.

Do you mean a "how to" book like this?

It's not a bad book (that's Aussie for I think it's very useful) - doesn't include the newer ply/epoxy/lap method, but in there it does explain setting out the same sort of planking.

I also have a copy of book called 'Watercraft' by Maynard Bray (Mystic Seaport Museum publication), and it has the lines and framing of a couple of Whitehalls, and a pulling boat that looks like one.

-there's a fifteen footer here http://www.by-the-sea.com/bakerboatw...s&wherries.pdf and an example of it http://www.douglasbrooksboatbuilding.com/whitehall.html

And I was going to say check out Roger Long's - but there he is above.

Rowing only or sail & oar? That should make a difference in the plans you select...

You need look no farther than the WoodenBoat Store. Complete, step-by-step building guide, including plans:

This is available from our hosts right here. I've got a copy and endorse it wholeheartedly. You could stretch it to 16' with ease.
    Amphibious Macroplankton Oughtredia doublendus
Mostly found frequenting the littoral and estuarine zones in the southern half of the Salish Sea, though sightings have been recorded both north and south of this area, and occasionally, but rarely, inland, in freshwater environments. This species lives on micro-brewed beer and dutch-oven biscuits, and displays brightly colored nylon and gore-tex plumage during the rainy season. Approach with caution!

If you're contemplated glued lapstrake construction, the books of John Brooks and Iain Oughtred are also 'not bad books'. For glued lap boats, Tom Hill developed a type of mold that many think is a good idea. It's described in his book (and video).

I don't know of any published plans whose 'patterns' go beyond full-size station molds.
