While my affinity for UGA goes no farther than Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, I really hate ND.
Georgia scores here and it’s ove-a.
an almost perfect day in college football
georgia caps it off by winning but not winning so dominantly as to move alabama out of the #2 spot
five sec schools in the top eight. . .

Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.
Go Ducks! Hammered Stanford & oughta be higher in the rankings!

Ohio State scored 76 points.
Showed no mercy.

Apparently, Fresno’s QB learned to distinguish between his team’s uniforms and those of the other team...
Peace,
No INT To End The Game!
They pulled the 1st string QB at halftime, played 2nd stringer in the 3rd and the 3rd stringer in the 4th. I was napping though the game, but every time I woke up there were more players I've never heard of. You don't really want to crush an opponent like that, but I think you do need to let your team play.
Michigan had some tough competition playing at Wisconsin, but they continue to be a disappointment. At some point. they'll need to figure out how to compete and win in the big games. I thought the coaching change would solve their problem, but I'm beginning to doubt Harbaugh and the new staff.
Also, they really have to be able to beat theOSU every now and then or the big game can't be called a rivalry. They still have time to improve before this years game.

Geezus. Washington State Cougars led UCLA 49-17 late in the third quarter and still lost the game.
anybody have a comment on the antonio brown drama?
my take: by all accounts, antonio has been a toxic personality since childhood. and mixed with multiple blows to the head, his toxicity becomes a stew of self destructive mental illness.
there were a few days very recently when people speculated that brown played everyone for fools by faking volatility, getting out of pittsburgh and "oakland" to land on the best team in the league, as if by design. that was obviously not the case. the man is seriously messed up. the rape allegations against him have to be taken as credible, at this point. prison term to follow?
his agent, rosenhaus, is one of the most powerful in the game, but he did serious damage to himself, selling damaged goods to the patriots. you can't get egg on the faces of robert kraft, bill belichick, and tomas brady without consequences.
I was glad to see that the Pats ditched him. Yeah, he's a great player, but I agree he's got serious issues.

so close, cleveland.
one of these days....
No, I'm no Tinto it. But it's the Australian Football League grand final next Saturday, one of the oldest clubs from Melbourne, one of the newest from Sydney.
Brown is just a particularly glaring example of a long-standing problem with sports.
Because we value sports talent so highly... we both create and overlook such characters. I'd love to see better incentives and consequences enacted for anti-social and illegal acts by sports figures - instead of winks & nods.
And this ties into another of my hobbyhorses. I think the NFL & NBA, at the very least, should build into their contracts the ability and resources for players to visit (or even be forced to visit?) sports psychologists.

Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the Ducks season plays out.
Their one real test so far - they looked quite good... right up until the end. I think them letting Auburn back into it after leading for the first 95% or so of the game was a case of 'pilot error'. Cristobal has a ways to go before he becomes the next Amos Alonzo Stagg. But he seems to be picking it up.
I'm also quite impressed with the defense their new coordinator has installed. I'm less than dazzled by the offense. I can't tell yet whether they are deliberately limiting their playbook, feel constrained by all the wide receivers lost to injury, or the O.C. is just an unimaginative lump.

And due to the opposing team being completely incapable of catching a football yesterday, the mighty Detroit Lions remain unbeaten...
Go figure.

so, the saints...without drew brees...beat the seahawks at seattle....then dallas in n'orleans?
tough team defense, and alvin kamara may be the best ball carrier in the league at the moment.
So... the Ducks did passably well this week.
No turnovers. No injuries. They didn't allow a score. And they stayed steady in the AP rankings <G>

I had some time to relax, so I watched the Buckeyes and the Browns this weekend.
Nebraska is one of the Big Ten teams I've been rooting for to step up and challenge theOSU. They are not quite there yet, but I think the team is on the right path. I was especially proud of the fan base who filled the stadium, cheering on their team, even in the face of a thorough start to finish beatdown at the hands of the Buckeyes.
Also, there appears to be a football team in Cleveland, which is nice.

Yup, Nebraska got whupped. Frost and staff 'knew' it was coming - so did the team. OSU is loaded; NU is 'half ways there'. But is was an otherwise fun weekend, other than the butt-kicking. Clean game, from what I saw. Fan base is pretty welcoming to visitors, so we got that!
There's a lot of things they didn't tell me when I signed on with this outfit....
No doubt they were overmatched in this one, but the team hung in there. Both fans and players showed heart all the way through. That's what I find so promising. They've got the right coach and some pretty good talent. I think they are just a few recruiting classes away from being a top team in the Big Ten.

'Hope Springs Eternal' is the State Motto. Even got the tattoo (alright, ya got me - I don't; but I've thought about it.)

, Like
Forde's 'Fab Four' this week is interesting. Includes Wisconsin and Auburn.

Wisconsin/OSU would seem to be the interesting Big10 matchup.

Turned on the Florida/Auburn game while I ate lunch. A perfect example of why I seldom watch SEC football. Back to work...

classic sec struggle
ya know david there’s this saying in the sec, you might have heard it, or then again maybe oregon fans haven’t heard it, “Defense wins championships!”
Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.
Maybe that old saying should be expanded. 'Defense, penalties, lack of qb play, poor execution, and boring game plans win someone a championship. Or a game. Or some ad revenues. It don't matter... the fans still love us.
Perhaps just for this game - it's been an ugly and painful watch. Or maybe for more general use?
