The build has been much fun and I continue to marvel at Tom's design talents that created a boat stong on function, economy and most importantly, very pleasing to my eyes.

Fortunately, the Austin, Texas mild winters are condusive to working with epoxy.
    Dave,

You will be catching up with your crosstown rival Ed Fredholm's BJ 27 before long. He has many building photos on Flickr. Several other Bluejackets in the Austin area. Do I remember that you were in MD when you got the plans?

    I need your current email.

    All the best, Tom

    MAM,

Beautiful build.... Glad to see you're no longer "slowly building".

But I can't really believe you typed:

Don Kurylko's Myst - in glued lapstrake.

Informed by everything posted by all of you for the last several years relating to open boat camp cruising. Inspired by Jeff Saar and Ted Cody who built the beautiful Myst hulls 1 and 2, and by Alex Zimmerman who built Don's Alaska in glued lapstrake. Encouraged to go for it by Don who offered his advice on substituting lapstrake for strip planking.

Started actual planking a couple weeks ago, and have applied six of the twenty-two planks. Building log at: https://picasaweb.google.com/JimNanH...eat=directlink

    Jim,

Let me know if you are in Billings and I'll show you how I'm progressing with my Beg-Meil build. I have 9 of 20 planks on.

Hope you have a warm space to build.

    Good luck - Gary

built, sailed and sold Hartley TS16 ( too small ).
Started a model North Atlantic Tuna Boat ( definately too small ).
Feather Pram (Oughtred ) dinghy ( for now grown up kids- might be finished in time for their kids, too small for me)
I've now just started an Oughtred "Grey Seal", at the mould making/laminating frames stage. Douglas Fir timber, ply undecided yet. Lapstrake contruction. Been for a sail on one and it fits just nice.

Looks like that origami bottom came out pretty good...did the uncut spot go flat or want to dish a bit?

Yes, There is always a flat spot in the "compound curve".
One can ignore it, or, glue a piece of foam in, longboard the foam and dynel the foam. This yeilds a stiffer bottom with some positive bouyancy. Some think that putting foam in the bottom will cause it to flip, and stay flipped. (?)
We will ignore it, for now.

Well, maybe MAM wants more punch outta the Johnson - not to difficult. Between the block and tower housing there is a notch in the block that allows water to pee on the tuned exhaust pipe within the tower. PLUG IT! Yes, plug that notch. Result should be a 300+ RPM boost, and in our raceboats running the OMC 15 engines, about a 3 MPH hit. Lots of other tricks but that one is the easiest. Go for it MAM!

Shellback Dinghy with pivoting centerboard for the East Bay mud. Building from plans, outside under a carport roof, when I'm supposed to be cleaning and improving the house while my daughter's at preschool. Meranti ply; all else is Douglas fir. Bottom and garboards on. I'll post some pictures when I flip it.

Getting ready to put on the sides on my "Perfect 10" mini-tug boat. You can check out my blog for complete details and photos on my build at http://toddsminitugbuilding.blogspot.com/ . I am currently putting the seat boxes in place as soon as the epoxy cures that I applied today. I really want to get it in the water by June! Does anybody know of a decent 25 hp long shaft for sale with controls?

Glenn, That post was back at the end of December and he's only posted here three times.
You might try sending him a PM. He may have his account set up to receive email notification of PM's.

You could also start your own thread here in B&R or in Products and Resources. You'll get plenty of varied response that way.
    Good luck,

Painting the Bolger Cartopper. Just a quick and dirty build to see if I'm capable doing it. Found I like the woodworking aspects more than the fiberglass(apparently I'm allergic). So now I'm dreaming about the Ellen 12' from brooks boats.

I'm building a 7 strake Caledonia Yawl. It was a choice between this and the Pathfinder. Keelson and Stems glued together last weekend. A bit more shaping to to do then its full steam ahead with the planking - once I figure out how I'm going to do it. Reading up on the best way to spile the planks, should I glue the sheets of ply together first or on the boat etc. If anybody knows any good links or blogs or info please let me know. I started this boat about a month ago-its in my dads garage until October when the winter starts and he needs it back.

    Hi,
Since Oktober 2005 I'm building in the Netherlands, and only recently discovered this forum. Thanks to that I made problaby more mistakes than nessessary.
But that's boatbuilding: the freedom to make your own mistakes.
Since it is an American design (Dave Gerr), I guess it belongs here too.
    Pics are here :

If you have trouble understanding the captions(?) , of course they are in Dutch, feel free to ask for a translation.

    Greetings,
