I pulled a few bronze pieces off a 1957 Herreshoff 27' sloop, lest they end up on a scrap metal pile.... anybody know the proper description for this kind of jib sheet winch? and who made them?

Okay, I'm having no luck including the photo with on this website.... it keeps telling me it's 82kb over limit
A workaround is to add the too-big photo by copying it's www.tinypic.com url into your post.
(FWIW... Woot woot! My 16,000th post here!! Think I should get a life maybe??))

Tinypics? Thanks! Let's see if it does it.
Not sure which add'y is supposed to be copied into a post, so I'll test it with all 3 options.

May she rest in peace.
They look like Merriman winches I've known, with the exception of the 'shoulders' on the top alongside the handle socket.
I had some Merriman winches from 1962 that did not have that 'feature.
Might they be from South Coast? Curious coincidence in the yardstick.
Great... thanks for posting the pic.

Coincidence. South Coast Water District was handing out the rulers at this years Dana Point Boat Show/Green Expo.
Somebody else sugested merriman, but there are no marking we can see.
They were clearly original equipment on the 1957 Herreshoff we laid to rest.
I suppose I'll list them on E-Bay as 'possibly Merriman" if I don't get a positive ID on them soon.
The South Coast logo was "South Coast" in script.
Sykes something?
I guess the notched catch in the handle has to line up with the slot in the winch head to get the handles out??

By the way: woohooo, I figured out how to get a picture posted!
