    Default save a classic-vita- mia

over here in hawaii at the alawai marina found this classic powerboat ..she has been well maintained since 1980,s ,since I have known her.. obviously fallen on hard times and state seizure notice plastered on the side.would be a shame to see it broken up but that is happening to a lot of boats over here, and probably the mainland I assume...derrick

Does the state auction stuff like that off? That's no derelict at the back of the yard, she's afloat.

according to my surveyor who the state employs to survey abondoned and seized boats in oahu, he told me that in the 250 boats that he had surveyed only one wass auctioned.. the rest were broken up .. hence the empty slips now so abundunt...trouble is in hawaii there is very little dry storage and very high property prices so in the water is the cheapest place!! once the siezure notice is placed on the boat its in the hands of the state and they are not too helpful with the amount of derilict vessels on their hands...they only want to get rid of them and wooden boats are not too valuable over here in the world of fiberglass..even though it looks good , blow up some of the bow and you will see the rot starting.. check with the alawai harbor master for the up to date info if interested...to keep a boat like this in hawaii, have a pocket full of money ready ..regards derick

Really really sad.... I would take that boat in an instant if she were anywhere nearby.

Nice yacht. Looks like she was in charter service not all that long ago. That's Vida Mia by the way. A google search turns up a lot on her. Not a CYA member as far as I can tell. What are her known issues?

Very cool boat - would you have to put her on a ship, or in better condition could she make the trip on her own?

That's a rough run for a boat in trouble. Not one I'd want to make unless I had a lot of confidence in the equipment. The boat also may well not have the range with it's internal tankage, but details on this are pretty slim on the ground. What's known about her? Some details of condition and equipment would be useful.

It's charter life must be over. The old links to it's charter web site go to shoes of the same name. There was a MySpace link though. Other than saying it is a sister ship to Kennedy's DANNY BOY, there isn't much. More pic here:

aloha, well I,m back in oahu, soI will take another peak at the vida mia and get some more info ..I will try and get some closups..often times the gates are locked and you cannot get in...the whole alawai is full of seized boats so you can,t feel too bad about any particular boat, and Im way too busy keeping my boat out of their hands...If you want to know the mentality of the state..check out the site on the "Falls of Clyde" or should I say the Falling falls of clyde.. the state in their infinite wisdom decided to unrig the falls of clyde and sink it as a reef...it was beautiful...luckily taken over by the friends of the falls of clyde a couple of years ago...but looking at it today it seems they are not getting the funding to bring it back uo to snuff... hence like the state did a few years ago ..seized all vessels including ships barges , tugs that had reached their level of dereliction they will probably soon deem it a hazard to the harbor and sink it...I will take some pics of it later on today after I get our friends prius up to snuff...change of subject..apparentlt this prius has a bad starting battery and is completely dead... what,s up with that? I thought at least I might be able to drive it to the parts store...derrick

what I can read from this is...

Mr Robert Mayn...unreadable.. could be ard

    5541 eastcro.......unreadable

    scotsdale ,ariz...

looks like he had three vessels, maybe in his charter business..

    he owes the state..

    1. vida-mia....7,827.48 dollars
    2.ihe kai 6,920 dollars

    3. garage 13,712.55 dollars.

last must be a boat name as well?

it says 10 days he has since the notice was posted.. and my mistake the vessel is moored at Kewalo Basin.. near downtown honolulu..couln,t see any date but the notice was obviouly quite old...actually vessel looks in good shape and would,nt take that much to bring into shape if one were handy...hurry up the state doesn,t give ahoot about any boats over here..derrick

Partner? Fw'd house is just a bit "high" looking, maybe just a bit clumsy?

Trying to talk you out of this folly.

Does anybody know if the Vida Mia is still afloat? I used to admire her when she was tied up in Ala Wai harbor years ago. A full time crew kept her in emaculate condition then. I believe she was owned by a local law firm at the time.

From Maine to Washington, that would be a beautiful boat in any harbor.

That IS a nice looking yacht.

Just think, if her fate would have her located on either the West or East coast, I am sure somebody could pull together a consortium or something to save her.

You'd think that as financially strapped as state governments were, they'd try to sell anything before scrapping it.

Can't you just imagine cruising the inland waterway on that?
