I got bumped off a flight on Thursday and was given a free ticket to be used within a year to anywhere AirTran flies.
I was never given an actual ticket, just a number to quote, my sceptic glasses are on. Has anyone ever used one of these.

Air Canada gave a voucher as a door prize to a British skier in 2004,in Whistler BC. Couldn't use it, gave to a mate, who couldn't use it and gave it to another mate. This guy gave it to me. I gave it to my son, who with a pal used it to go to guess Where? Whistler. Absolutely no problems whatsoever.
BTW all this up to my son took place in the UK.

The doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power, and oppression, is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind.

>>That was on People('s?) Express back when they were in business.<<
It was PeopleExpress. We were bought out by Continental, soon to be merged with United. Some of us are still flying, the planes look the same from the inside, only the outside paint changes.
We volunteered to get bumped from a connecting flight in Denver once for a free overnight and 2 vouchers. Used them to fly to Cleveland later that year with no problems whatsoever. Possibly because Cleveland isn't high on many people's vacation destination list though.
