Hi,
Does enybody have some guildlines for lug mast / yard dimentions? I'm going to have standing lug on my peapod, but rescaling some other design I came to rather bulky mast of 3.25 '' mast for 95sq feet sail...
regards

I usually suggest that my customers follow Iain Oughtred's formulas for spar diameters, which have worked well on various new projects, including a whole bunch of one-off lugsails.
Mast- Maximum diameter 1:52 of the mast's length above the partners. Masthead for a lug tapers to 70% of max diameter, 95% at half height above partners. Below the partners the mast can taper to 65%-75% of maximum.
Yard - Diameter 1:60-1:64 of the yard's length. Taper to 82% at heel, 62% at peak.
Boom - Diameter 1:56 of length. Taper to 80%-85% at heel, 70% at peak.
FWIW I have an 89 sq ft standing lug on my whitehall with a mast diameter of 3".
Checking notes on an old design.....12 foot peapod....82 sq. ft. sail, 20 foot mast,Solid spruce.... .6 lbs per foot....2.6 inches by 2 inches, Ixx (in4) .22, Iyy (in4) .2, or use Kenyon aluminum A section.

If that's a 20' mast, it ain't no lugsail.
I am converting Oughtred's 87 square foot Penny Fee rig to a 15 foot Matinicus Peapod.
- Mast is just a bit over 3" diamater, 15'3 length.
- Yard is about 2 1/8" diameter, 9 feet long.
- Boom is a bit thicker, maybe 2 1/2" diameter, 10 feet long.
After a sprit rig, it seems like there's going to be a lot of lumber in the boat.
OOPS! alternate rig...had to pull the entire set of plans...9.5 feet, 3" x 2.5 inch section..61 sq. foot sprit rig...same aluminum section, just shorter. If that's a 20' mast, it ain't no lugsail.

Good info. Thanks
Thank You Todd and others,
It happens that the design I have on hand is from Ian. It gives 3 1/4'' mast at partners; 15.3' long after rescaling. I still have some troubles with getting sail's COE right. Original design with sprit rig had lead of 10%. I've made an error of fixing thwart with mast partner at the original location. With lug I have lead of 12-13%. This lug will be bit higher then sprit so maybe it will work fine.
