Thread: Wood Epoxy Boat Design

  1. Default

I am looking for books/information about scantling design of cold moulded vessels. I know that ABS and RINA have rules for wood boat scantlings, but is there an industry standard design methodology in use in the USA?

I think that McNaughton and Assoc. has some books on such things. I don't know thier web address, but you can look it up at the mother of all maritime links pages under the plans section.

Reuel Parker, in his book, THE NEW COLD MOULDED BOATBUILDING gives a chart for hull
scantlings. Prior to offering his chart he
mentions ABS so I can only guess(and hope)
that he has done his homework.Maybe the
"Coasties" can cite a directive.??? They sure
enjoy inspecting them when they're completed.

Sam Devlin in his book Devlin's Boat Building gives some scantling information. He should know, as he's built a many of them.

Ian Nicolson's book "Cold-Moulded and Strip-Planked Wood Boatbuilding", while not large has much useful information as well.
