Default Video - building an Oselvar seksæring, minute by minute

Oselvarverkstaden has published a short video of the building of an Oselvar seksæring in their shop - taken at one photo pr minute. It hasn't been published on Youtube (or at least, not yet) so I hope this link to Facebook works... The entire build takes a little less than 5 minutes. If you have never seen the Scandinavian building technique, which is completely different from the usual 'plank on frame' style, this should be an eye-opener. Here the hull gets built first, then the frames go in. How does that work? Check out the video...

Ok... I see the video doesn't show directly. Until it ends up on youtube, you'll have to go through FB. Sorry about that.

It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

It looks like they did not carve the garboard on these boats or maybe I missed it in the video. I would think it would easier and faster way to build.

I guess they get big money for their boats.

I don't think the Oselvarverkstad uses sawn/steamed garboards on any of their boats. They are the 'keepers of the tradition' and the teaching institution for Oselvarbuilders in particular and traditional small craft from the region.
And yes, their boats are top dollar.

They are just beginning an åttring build after researching what was still found of them around Vestland. The boatwright called me today to get a fix on the oar size of our åttring. She will be looking for some good trees for these long oars in the forest soon.
