Default Bronze Casting Demo - Silva Bay Shipyard School

    Hello all,

There is going to be a bronze casting demonstration this weekend - January 23-24th and the SBSS. Various bits will be cast from the pattern, to the sand, to the crucible and out. Everyone is welcome and the event is free. We will be running the furnace rain or shine, though hopefully shine...

If you are in the area, please stop by.

Hi Alex. Met you last summer at the Granville Island Boat Show. (I was the guy in the blue shirt.)
I can't find out how far this is from the ferry. Walking distance? Don't want to bring my car. (Might find a boat for sell and return with it.)

    GB,

Must have been another SBSS type - I missed the Granville Island show last summer due to the Cockle project.

If you can get to Gabriola, it is very easy to hitch a ride down to Silva Bay. I know it seems strange, but people on the ferry are very used to folks knocking on car windows and looking for a ride to the South end aka Silva Bay... or you can call a taxi, but the fee is rather egregious. $25+ last time I heard.

We need an off island car-pool!

Hey Alex, sounds interesting! Can you post some info on the casting course being offered later in the year?

    Thanks

    Brahm,

We are just sorting out the details with curriculum and dates. It is going to happen for sure - I will start a new thread for it when we have it all ironed out. From the feedback so far - even before the demo - it sounds like we might have to run it twice!

We have a lot of stuff we want to cast for our Cockle project, and there are lots of other builders who are interested as well.

    Paladin,

That is a great idea. I am going to make patterns this week based on the vise in my other thread. I will post the results.

    Gert,

I know - Gabriola isn't the easiest or cheapest place to get to if you are not sailing here! Perhaps we need a satellite campus in Vancouver - bronze casting at your place?

Remember - we are running both days at the school this weekend. I will post some pics this afternoon!
