I have been spending time in the boat shop, but have not been taking many pictures. mainly due to the fact that I wasn't taking very good ones. But on a recent cross country road trip with my #2 son I found out that I can actually focus the camera on my phone.

And so, I have been piddling around with the puffer parts but that isn't done yet. Still finishing up the ex-fiances boat shown above but I should be done with it by sat night, I will let her do the spar varnish.

And I changed my mind again about which boat is next. drift boat for Oregon, I'm keeping the summer breeze here in Colorado. Some great freinds just gave me the book Drift Boats and River Dories, by Fletcher. I suspect things will be going much smoother with the new table say also, that has been slowing me down and not making me want to rip anything.

I also had a side project that involved gel-coat and pool slide repair, that was interesting. And I get the left over gel-coat for the puffer repairs. Somewhere along the way I got reacquainted with a love of bicycles and that hasn't helped either as I have dedicated one bench to messing with old headlamps and bottle generators.

    And so it goes..
In fact, if you can saw a penciled line, apply glue, drive nails, and bring a modest measure of patience to the task, you can build and launch a smart and able craft in as few as 40 work hours. You need not be driven by lack of tools, materials, skills, or time to abandon in frustration a project you conceived in a spirit of pleasurable anticipation.

didn't realize I hadn't posted anything here in 8 months. So I took a few pics last weekend.

Yep, another OSS, this time with three shelves. I hope it is the last one for a while, they got boring.

and the shop has been very cold, need to invest in some insulation before I invest in more projects.

The summer breeze finally got wet in rowing mode, I thought to take it out before finishing the sailing bits. A good friend just got married and would like to have a small fishing boat for two, so after splashing the boat I gave it to them. I need the room in the shop to build a boat I am in love with, and for a long time I thought that boat was a goat island skiff. The reality is that I'm not overly fond of flat bottoms and wave slap, and I dont need the room. Now that the decks are cleared in the shop I'm going to finish putting together the plastic puffer next weekend and then start a new build. Two people max, easy sailing and rowing, round bottom, good initial stability for fishing. I'm looking at SCAMP now.[IMG][/IMG]

Bad picture, the phone has been getting weird.

    Congrats!

I am about half way through the sailing bits on mine.

This new ship here is fitted according to the reported increase of knowledge among mankind. Namely, she is cumbered end to end with bells and trumpets and clocks and wires. It has been told to me she can call voices out of the air or the waters to con the ship while her crew sleep. But sleep though lightly. It has not yet been told to me that the sea has ceased to be the sea.--Rudyard Kipling

It has been far to long since I had some good boat shop time, had to heal some bones, lots of travel, weather, various other lame excuses. But spring has sprung.

And so it begins, a Hylan Beach Pea

Those pieces will in the clamps become the stem jig.

Not pictured is the 68 dollars of mahogany purchased over the weekend, most of which will end up on the floor in the form of sawdust. As Mr Hylan says, get over it.

Looking forward to following this one Switters- for once I'll actually understand what's happening The inside of mine is done- painted and varnished. Outside is done apart from painting the sheerstrake and putting on the stem band. I've made spars, tholes, thole pins, rudder, oars and tiller- only have rudder hardware to make, install a couple of fittings for the rigging and job's done. Still don't have a name for her, or any way to get the boat to the water, but those minor details will soon be sorted. Wishing you good luck with your build, mate. JayInOz

Nice job Switters, I don't know how I missed this thread. I like the spaced inwales on this boat. Looks easier than some fancy curved ones I've seen and still looks nicer than just square spacers. Can't wait to see this one finished.

Thanks Sea Dreams, I should point out though that those inwales came out very heavy, if I had to do it over again I would have made the blocks thinner and the rail thinner. about 3/4 inch instead of 1 1/2.

Cut the stem jig out and halfway through the jigsaw blade rotated a bit. I had to do a fair amount of planing and sanding to get the face of the jig straight and true.
