Default Coral wood: good for modelling?

I'm planning to build a model boat in Vietnam but I can only get suitable timber from Ho Chi Minh City, which is a long way from home in Hanoi. I can get balsa or a timber called coral wood that I've never heard of. Does anyone know anything about this and its suitability for small boat modelling? Rick
