It is kauri, ex old felled trees that were too hard to get out back in the day. Economic now though.
The keel is now formally attached to the donor hull including new 1 inch bolts, good effort. A lot of assistance from people associated with the yard .. bits, engineering for the bolts , really encouraging.

I had the job of guesstimating a waterline, battening it up and masking a line, and a bit of keel fairing.
