It is kauri, ex old felled trees that were too hard to get out back in the day. Economic now though.

The keel is now formally attached to the donor hull including new 1 inch bolts, good effort. A lot of assistance from people associated with the yard .. bits, engineering for the bolts , really encouraging.

This is the tender I worked aboard as a deck hand in 1995. She's 82', docked here in Juneau unloading fish and the eng you see on the aft deck is probably 5'9". The cruise ship "Legend of the Sea's" is 867' and at the time the largest in SE Alaska McClure Bay.jpg

This unit was feverishly made ready for the mahurangi regatta the weekend just gone. It is unfinished but floating, sailing even.

She's looking great! I hope he doesn’t lose momentum now that it’s in the water, always a trap - like houses - if you move in before it’s finished you kinda' lose your puff and it takes forever to get finished (talking from experience)
