Default Around Treasure Island Series Continues

The regatta series continues in May. All sailing vessels welcome!

    Attachment 57601

I am planning on sailing my boat single or doubled handed around Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay on May 2. I am hoping that a few of you will join me in an event of solidarity and relative isolation as we rip around one of the bays most scenic islands. Please note I am wagering 1 corona beer which I will place in a cheap Styrofoam icebox on the dock (all wagers must be on the dock by 11:45) that i will cross the line first. Also come up with your own prizes to leave on the dock minding social distancing practices. (Toilet paper anyone?) The rules are you can go either clockwise or counter clockwise departing from Clipper Cove. Boats that rate at or over 150 will start at noon. Boats that rate under 150 could start at 12:15. Any boat and skipper that wants to complete the circumnavigation is welcome.

Please show proper distance, encouraging words and the best in Corinthian spirit. Feel free to give an optional donation to your favorite organization that is fighting to save and serve our health and safety as your entrance fee.

We can sail and make a difference at the same time. Let's all be winners. Come join me on May 2.

I would like to participate, but as a chase/safety/photo boat. Former small wood boat owner, but now have a Latemodel plastic Grand Banks 32. I can follow the fleet to tow boats who have run out of wind (unlikely, I know), or assist boats in trouble. Based in Alameda, we are planning on spending the night at anchor in Clipper Cove, so welcome raftups for drinks and talk. If we each sit in our own boats we will even be practicing safe distancing! Having a chase boat may encourage some more participants for you as well.
BTW, you might want to contact Todd Bloch, local president or the Traditional Small Boat Assoc. They have several sail boat members who might want to participate too.
I hope this appeals to you...I am looking forward to it

Rules to remember. Arrive and deposit entry before 1150. Make safety a priority. Give room, observe proper right of way and keep social distance. Look for the ice box. Use proper sailing tool of choice. Monitor Channel 69.
    Have fun.

What a day on the bay! inside the ice chest had nice home brew and two other bottle as a wager. Another IPA Circled treasure island run, got stuck in the mud for 2 hours (2 hour nap) at the TI cove. Lost 2 battens in new to us headsail. Huge whale breached 20 yards away off the Oakland inner harbor entrance and had a spirited 8.3 kts under “white sails”run down the estuary.

We even had a lovely escort trawler courtesy of another woodenboat forum member.

    Ted,
Thanks for the nice picture of Pacific Star framed by the bridge. Sweet! Especially since I didn't actually follow you around the course... I would not have kept up with the Moths anyhow! Woke up from a nap about 3;30 and saw 3 of you aground at the entrance to Clipper cove, very close to a zero low-low tide. Figured even with my 4' draft I couldn't get close enough to get a line to any of you, and conditions were pretty benign and on a rising tide anyhow. Did try to call you but you were obviously in nap mode at that point. Watched 2 or 3 other sailboats hit bottom trying to get into the Cove, but all got off pretty fast. All in all (mostly) a good day was had by all!

6/7 feet at 0.00 low tide! The cove is silting in fast beyond where it was last year. It does not look good for that marina or the future of the cove.
