    There's beginning to be talk about such a program for appliances.

    and a case could be made that there is a public benefit from removing aged inefficient appliances from use.

    For products like furniture, it's hard to see it as anything more than a promotional discount on a high-margin product.

    For boats, I wouldn't bet the farm on the success of a program to encourage trading Donzis for dinghies.
