    Default Yamaha ouch! board

Having posted on a couple of different threads recently about my general satisfaction with Yamaha .... here's a a big.. 'HOW MUCH????'

Trying to lift a 40hp off the transom with a cocked-up assortment of bits of chain and engine hoists and generally not paying too much attention, the whole kit slipped and left me with some ugly scars through the decals on either side of the outboard cover/cowling and a couple of gouges in the paint....
down to the dealer, can of touch-up spray 12 bts, I can live with that,.... decals, wait for it.......white block letter YAMAHA, 18 bts each, the flash zippy bit with 'four stroke' 58 bts each total cost for both sides, with 20% tax, close on 190 bts ....Serious dosh for some stickers doncha think....when I can buy service parts like oil filter, fuel in-line filter three plugs and a quart of oil for 30 bts or so.... bt =beer token = £-€-$ more or less

look online for that kind of stuff ... ebay, etc.

Get it for a small FRACTION of the retail price!!!

Jeez, if I were you I'd just remove all the decals out of spite. Why should you have to pay almost 200 quid just to advertise for yamaha, especially after you've already bought their engine! Remove everything and refinish to match the boat I say. Even if it's more work, I'm just a little pigheaded about such things.

Jonboy, have you compared the parts to other brands? I haven't but up here Yamaha have become very popular with commercial marine activities, not just because of their reliability, but precisely because of the availability and what these guys consider to be a reasonable price of parts compared to other outboards. I wonder if it is a supplier/quantity thing, the more Yamaha's there up here the cheaper parts become.

I've got a 22 yr old yawl powered by a Yamaha 9.9 HT long shaft electric start that is the same age. The motor has given us outstanding service .

Good advice guys....pretty much what I was going to do but had thought about resale value....Don't want it look like it's been abused....nice idea about refinishing in keeping with the boat too...
Otherwise I am well happy with it and as I said , service parts are cheap....
Thought about going to one of those computer lazer cut sticker signwriter types, as I had a whole set done for the gallery shop window for about 20 bts.....
