Some of the earlier guideboats had small transoms, but this one also appears to have flat, bent ribs like a wood-canvas canoe.
I've seen some fishing guide canoes in eastern Cananda that have a small transom for a motor, but they were usually quite a bit longer so they would still be shallow enough to run through the shallows.
