Hello to experienced builders,
At present I am finishing the building of a sailing dinghy and have used, being from the NW, some recyled fine grain old fir for the three seats. The seats are 7 7/8" wide and 7/8"+ thick. I have thought I might cap the edges with 3/16" mahogany for a little extra look in appearance. The gunales, transom seat and breasthook knees AND slot cap/trunk are all mahogany so there is some continuity to adding the caps. My question is : Is this a good idea? Can mahogany be used in such this strips (middle seat is 48" long)? Or am I just going over the top with this project?
