http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL483/8634233/16009429/406627860.jpgI just ran across this thread from a couple of years ago and realized I didn't close the loop with photos ... here are a couple of...
FWIW, the original grab rails on my CL Lion (wood) were simply screwed into the cabin top. Some screws hit beams, some didn't. When I redid the cabin top a few years ago, I thru-bolted the rails.
That was my problem when I did mine a couple of years ago - cure time and runs as I rotated the mast. Concordia's idea sure makes the rotating easier - nicely done - but I guess the application/run...
I've seen photos of cabin soles made of what appear to be unfinished teak boards. I think Gannon & Benjamin did this with Rebecca and Charlotte, for example. I like the look (unfinished floor boards...
I've used a plating shop in the past with good results, but depending on the item to be stripped and the condition of the chrome, you might want to consider an angle grinder with an abrasive...
Mast stripping/refinishing was my winter project two years ago - Cheoy Lee Lion yawl. FWIW, I stripped with a heat gun (great tool, wouldn't ever consider stripping by sanding) and decided not to...
Thanks, Andrew. I think that's what I'll do. The design I'm now envisioning is more similar to the Ram models, and less similar to what I think I originally had in mind. If the end result isn't...
That's a possibility, but I suppose what I'm picturing is more of an arm that swings out (pivoting on a bronze rod or wooden dowel) that has the GPS suspended below it. Knobs or levers that would...
Anybody have a good woodworking plan (the less metal working involved, the better) for one of those swivel-type GPS mounts? I want to build one that will be visible in the companionway while...
I refinished my masts last year. Went back and forth, but wound up doing a couple of coats of CPES, followed by a dozen of Epifanes Woodfinish Gloss. No sanding between coats, so long as you recoat...
Yeah, it was great meeting everyone. Thanks again for hosting, Russ & Julia! Margo, I hope you'll keep us posted on Sarah's deck project - lots of pics required ...

Jim:
I called WB yesterday morning and spoke with Scot after I noticed there was no ticket purchase info on the website - he said tickets were very limited, and advised me to reserve one ASAP,...
Awesome. Keep Turning Left is a wonderful thing.
Russ:
Perhaps a Marylander as well? I kind of threw this trip together this morning, but it looks like it's collapsing into place pretty well ... I even managed to get a dinner ticket for...
My wife doesn't love the sailing either, so I try to concentrate on what she DOES love: the social aspect. If we're sailing alone, then she pretty much spends her time reading the newspaper or...
Interesting. I currently use marinetraffic.com (seems to be similar) to monitor Chesapeake Bay traffic, but I'll check this one out.

I had these exact questions 11 years ago when I bought my 35 foot yawl. I'd have a tough time coming up with exact figures/percentages, but I do know that I've had a decent sized project almost...
Here you go.

Thad:
I believe I asked this same question a few years back and was told that it's a bad idea. Can't exactly remember why. I'll see if I can find the old thread.

I missed this last year, but I see it's on the schedule for May 19, 2012. Anybody participating? Any comments from the inaugural race last year? Looks like fun.
Thanks, everybody. I was leaning toward the mild bleach solution initially, and i'll probably give that a try. The mildew is mainly a very light chalky film that develops on various surfaces - in...
As part of Lotus's interior refinishing last year, we went with oil instead of varnish. Used Daly's Seafin oil. Now that spring has arrived, I've noticed (as usual) some light mildew on various...
Every time I drive through Philadelphia, the highlight is seeing SS United States, beautifully faded paint and all, patiently waiting down at the dock for someone to bring her back. What I'd give to...
I was looking for the right color green Sunbrella a while back ... I thought "Spa" was closest to what I was looking for ...
In my case, I was looking for interior cushions in that color. Bob...
I did an experiment last season with my shroud rollers and anchor hatch cover: gobbed on about three coats (in as many hours) of Cetol Natural Teak. The most unprofessional application you can...
Well, I put a piece of hose on the barrel (the part under the sink), put a washer on the top of the hose (where it would make contact with the underside of the sink) and pushed it up as far as I...
Sorry to be so dense Ian (and Papillon), but can you give me some more detailed instruction? Thanks!
Well the photo is a WS60, but mine is something similar, an old Cheoy Lee standard issue. No screw holes anywhere on the unit. Unless there was some kind of fancy compression clip or something that...
1635Can anyone tell me how a galley pump like this one would be installed? Note that the barrel of the pump remains below the sink, and there is no locking nut that tightens it to the sink itself. ...
Somebody once gave me an old tool for this purpose - it is a hot knife that I believe is specifically meant for seams. Not sure if you already have something similar, but let me know if you have any...
The reason I was considering cherry is that is apparently available in compwood (teak is not), and I have some experience with it, having used it for cabinet doors below. And I'd also considered...
A couple of years ago, I put new dynel/epoxy on my cabintop (Cheoy Lee Lion) and I never got around to replacing the teak eyebrow trim. If memory serves, I made a mess of it during removal, and in...
Don - can you provide a link to the Rudder article you mention? Can't seem to find it ... thanks.
That wide wale corduroy sounds interesting (in navy blue) for the v-berth, which I don't plan to do in vinyl because of breathability issues ... good tip on the Rudders ... thanks.
What about other details, such as piping? My upholstery guy reportedly does quality work, but he doesn't seem to be a wealth of knowledge regarding aesthetic issues, namely what's...
Great information - just what I was looking for. I figured there was a utilitarian story behind that light green I love so, but never knew about the fungicide! I had actually been thinking about a...
Lotus' cabin refinishing project has finally reached a point where I need to pick a fabric for the cushions. I suppose the choice of fabric is ultimately a personal preference thing, but is there...
Yeah, it's mine, but to tell you the truth, I haven't used it much. Not sure if you've talked to ideal yet, but I remember I called them some time back and they were very helpful. In fact, the guy...

Is your windlass like this one?

Yeah, I agree about the classic view being better. I didn't realize they had eliminated the link, but I had the classic saved as a bookmark, so I'm still good. Hope they don't eliminate the classic...
There's a guy on ebay, seller name acme.auctions, who is very knowledgeable about old boat hardware, etc, and he always seems to have unusual bronze stuff. It might be worth sending him a note and...
Thanks, guys. I found it ... and it is a Kobelt.
Can anyone point me toward the thread from a while back that talked about engine control levers? I can't find it anywhere, but I remember the discussion led me, through internet searches, to a...
I used BF on my mast about 6 years ago, and I wasn't thrilled with the product. The smell is overwhelming, and I found it difficult to work with - very thin and runny. On my mast that meant a lot...
Welcome, Tod!! I use Picturetrail.com to upload pictures. Once they're uploaded, click on "Get Image URLs" and copy/paste those into the Forum. Kind of a pain, but not too bad once you get the...
Temperature question: Schooner says the temperature needs to be a minimum of 50 degrees F. How long does the temperature need to be maintained at 50 or above? Until it's dry to the touch? Longer?...
Yes, very sorry. I just saw this on MSNBC this morning. There are photos of the boat during the ordeal, including one of Thornes in a WoodenBoat t-shirt, so I figured somebody around here knew him....
I'm wondering if I should bother to bleach prior to applying finish. The mizzen is clear, but the main has some very slight gray shadows from where the finish was completely gone. I don't think...
