Has anyone ever built one of you big guide boats?
I have also worried about the open bow. I have read somewhere of one of the builders extending the bow to a point adding a stem.
please post pics of your 20 footer.
I also like the nexus models.
I also like the idea of a rowing dory for fishing. I have seen on another website a lot of people fishing on the northeast using dowries.
Nice Job! I will be watching :ycool: Keep the pictures coming!
Man you are moving along. Keep up the good work and keep the pics flowing.

Welcome to the group. Nothing beats the look of a well built Sharpie.

Did you ever complete the sharpie? Can we get some sailing pictures?
I love the look of the lumber yard skiff. Has anyone built a 20 footer with a cabin a y'all have described?

What about the Bolger cartopper?

I like the idea of using a sharpie for the river trip. If you Google the Ohio Sharpie design that has been built by many people. You have the option of rowing or sailing the boat. You also have...
I like your build I can't wait to see you fishing from her. I have always dreamed of building a sail boat to fish from. Growing up in Florida I have always had an affinity for the sharpie design. ...
Keep up the good work! More pics the better!
I love the work y'all have done on the Simmons sea skiffs. They are one of the dream boats I plan to build some day.
I have always loved the simple and functional aspects of these skiffs. Please keep up the good work and post lots more pictures.
I liked that a well very industrial looking.

I will be watching. Love a good Dory build.
Looking good! How much freeboard are you going to have with the floor elevated so high?

Sorry I was thinking of the wide sailing oyster Sharpies that were used in the south.

I wonder if the slab sided Dories get a bad reputation because of being so tippy? There is not much reserve unless loaded? I know from my research into Sharpies that they are very wide.

Love your build! I have looked @ these designs in Chapelle's Book. I love the look of the Rangeley. Look like a combination of a canoe and a whitehall pulling boat.
I love the look of a nice flats skiff. Please keep up the good work.

Any word on how you are processing on your slider cat?

I have also worried about that since the Dory I'm working on has a covered well.

Thwarts are the seat boards that cross the hull from side to side.

I like your scarfing jig.I have been doing mine the hard way with a plane. I hate we have to scarf so much. How would you scarf a 1x4? I might have to do that since I can't find some boards in...
I also like those long skinny Jon boats. I have learned that you have to be careful with them in large bodies of water.seems they become unstable in lakes but love the skinny water in rivers.

I have seen numerous flees boats with the pipe put under the flour to run the rigging. I do have a problem with foam under the floor.always seems to get water under there. I believe a sealed air...

I have these plans and i'm always thinking about building this one. You can...
I need to get your dimensions for the motor well. My plans call for an I/O but I'm converting it to a motor well like a typical power dory.
I like what you are doing! Being from South Carolina I love to see Simmons Skiffs around. Keep up the good work.
I also have plans for the LYS what motor do you plan on using for yours? I will be watching;)
Here is what the surfmaster 19 looks like my version is http://www.instantboats.com/downeastdories/images/smasterstudyplan1large.jpg
Low power dory for surf fishing. I like you don't want to spend...
I like what you have done so far. I have plans for the surfmaster 27 dory and i'm building up the nerve to start my build.
I like the way you ran the ribs parallel to the stem. That would greatly enhance your ability to use thinner plywood and still keep the structural stability. I also like how you placed all your...
I'm Looking for chapelle's and Gardner's books. I have also looked at a book called Tidecraft about boats in the south. I had not thought of the barrier islands being the reason. Thank-you for...
