Looks like a Bluejacket... Tom Lathrop.

On their website, Port Townsend Watercraft has instructions for a hatch. They also sell the toggle hardware for them.

One can talk and debate the idea of pre-coating all day long and never really know what the result will feel like. But if a simple test is done on a scrap of similar material, then the conjecture...
A heads up to anyone using StopLoss bags: Epiphanes varnish comes in a can that's slightly smaller diameter than most quart cans. The funnel can slip off and that can result in a real mess. Yeah, it...
I know nothing of these boats. But if a water route isn't an option, then I'd adopt my usual philosophy: Somebody built that, therefore it can be taken apart.
Jeff
Our island city banned fireworks a couple of years ago. That didn't stop our idiot neighbors from lighting off one last year in the midst of a very dry heat wave. I heard one bang and yelled over...
If the deck is structurally sound then it doesn't need the strength providing benefit that epoxy filled glass gives. And since it isn't glassed now, I'd presume that to be the case. If true, then I'd...
Very sweet, Steve. She looks much better on the water than in the back of your Suburban, and she looked mighty good there!
Jeff
Tom, with those conditions, I'd have stayed ashore on our deck and had a beer with my friend while we watched the waves roll by. I must admit that I'm a light wind sailor. Even though I am certain...
My climbing partner and I got lost on a route and darkness was coming on quickly. So we had to rappel down in the dark. On one pitch he went first and I watched the piton we'd driven flex under his...
My only tip is to advise you to provide some photos and more detail on how the rudder is built. Perhaps then folks will know how to advise you.
Jeff
I could take a photo of the varnish on my boat that would show a perfect finish. You would praise my varnishing prowess. But because a photo is limited to a small area, you would't know the truth. I...
Look great, Alex.
Jeff
I've built two glued lap boats and scarfed all the planks on the bench. For the second boat, I too wanted to minimize the amount of ply to purchase. This was simply a challenge I set for myself, more...
I've never had a bad experience with Craigslist. Whereas I have had, in the distant past, a bad experience using Facebook. Why do people think that FB, a site that is known to harbor all sorts of...
Are you sure that you have to register an 8' dinghy? Here in Washington the lower limit is 16'. I didn't bother to register my Somes Sound for several years because it's a few inches short of 16'....
I love the look of the dreamboats. But having one (more accurately, the maintenance work associated with having one) isn't something I want to wish upon myself.
Something I've wondered about the...
Afraid so, Bruce. To release the kraken you must now build a traditional carvel boat with white oak ribs (steamed, not lammed), with a laid deck. Sorry, but it's the only way.
Jeff
OK, another question for all you pizza bakers: How do you get the filled pizza dough into the oven? Explanation of why I ask: The recipe I've been using, while tasty, makes for a fairly sticky dough....
It's not a lot of extra work to add solid wood edging to the ply edges. This treatment will look better, resist impacts better, and be easier to seal with paint.
Jeff
So with all this talk of pizza, who's got a really good pizza dough recipe that isn't too much of a fuss to make. I've been doing a sourdough one but am unhappy with it.

I doubt that our Camry will reach 200K.... At least, for me. We put only 5,000 miles on it in its first year. So, that would mean 40 years to hit 200K. I doubt I'll still be driving at 114 years old....
Dave, I'm going to copy this idea. I've done a few pizzas on my three burner Weber gas grill by putting the goods directly onto the grate. First bake/grill one side, take that out and decorate the...
When building my Somes Sound there were times I'd read Brooks' build instructions and truly wonder what he meant or I'd wonder if he truly meant what I read. Then I'd work out my own way of doing the...
I used the birdsmouth bit that LeeValley sells on the mast for my Somes Sound. The mast is about 24 feet long and does not have a uniform taper. So two reasons I couldn't use the table saw. I don't...
Nick is one voice for a particular point of view. And there are many voices with a contrary point of view. So tell me, which point of view is most responsible for keeping this thread alive?
Jeff
MushCreek: I checked the plans (yes... I have a set. never built the boat) Brooks states right on the lines drawing that the angle of the transom is to be 11º. So that is that. Any other angle that...
I had, more or less, the same situation when building Brooks' Somes Sound.... the trig didn't match the given dimensions. I'm a civil engineer in a former life, so I feel your pain. Brooks told me to...
What are the odds in this scenario: Contestant makes choice. Let's say he open door A ... Monty opens a door that isn't door A ... There are now two doors that are unopened. Monty brings in a new...
Tom, according to the logic you claim in the final sentence... If you were to show that you are holding two jokers, then the odds of the other holding the King would not increase to 100%. And that is...
Since the game seems to be that the host opens one of the doors that he knows to conceal a goat, then gives the contestant another choice, means there is really only one game/choice/gamble to be...
Great idea! What do you use for glue?
I have the original Fein tool and their velcro backed triangle sanding pads. They are worthless because they simply won't stay in place.
Jeff
I think it was the teak oil. At least the cover label says something about teak. It's simple stuff that offers some protection.
Jeff
McMullen, you're not fooling anybody with this act. But... if you put a 30 horse on Rowan, I, for one, will consider that a credible step into the void.
Jeff
I used clear WRC for the sole on my Somes Sound. True the wood is soft, but just how hard does a sole need to be? Mine is holding up nicely since I launched in 2015. The boat gets regular use during...
Good to hear you're prospering and sailing, James. Stay safe and stay happy.
Jeff
Party On, Ian!!! You are an inspiration.
Jeff
You might find an article that Harry Bryan wrote in WB#227 to be informational. He describes the install of a stick steering station in a build. There is also an article I saw on Duckworks about...
I lived in Anchorage for a long time and for a spell, I ran a 19' Grumman square stern with a 10hp. I built a lift for the motor and used it regularly to navigate those skinny spots you write...
If one uses a hose for final clean up of the stripper... where does the waste paint/stripper go?
I suspect the answer is: The storm drain, then Puget Sound.
Jeff
Are a certain type of vehicle more likely to be hit? We have a new Camry that's very low to the ground. So, difficult to get a body under there to do any sort of work. I don't worry at all here at...
My EGo's run time varies widely with the length and quality of the grass I'm cutting. Manufacturers can't give a minimum run time because somebody will tax the mower and disprove them. In this...
Very best to you Ian. Thank you for bringing another wonderful wooden boat into the world.
Jeff
How about simply cobbling up a rudder, or rudders, to try out. Don't permanently affix it, so something that clamps onto the transom. Make it adjustable. Then go try it out. This trial will tell you...
I was born and raised in Southern California and have no real love for the place. However, picking on drivers there as being most reckless is dumb. Because people are people. Some are plain stupid...
I'm with Bruce on this. I don't think anything terrible is going to happen to your stored boat as long as it's kept dry (as in not collecting rain water inside) and covered enough to block UV. Any...
How well does plaited line fit into the ongoing discussion?
Jeff
This discussion reminds me of going fishing at a reservoir a couple hours drive from where we lived in Calif. This was in my teenage years. Anyway... we'd rent a skiff that came equipped with a...
Cut some separators from the clear thin plastic that some food containers are made from. Punch the appropriate hole for the screw and install them in-between the ribs and sole. If that doesn't work,...
It doesn't matter how many vintage teddy bears there are in the world or who has them. The only one that matters is the teddy that one has owned since.. whenever. And it's not limited to teddy bears....
