I used a power plane and then a disk sander and finished them off by hand sanding. I didn't glass-tape the scarfs. All I did was use thickened epoxy and screwed them down between two pieces of wood.

The 12 to 14 kts seems to be a good speed with a decent chop. It ends up being a good compromise as far as speed and pounding goes. If I remember correctly the motor was at about 4800 rpm when I...
erster, When I'm out on the boat the anchor, cooler, boat bag and anything else all goes forward. The boat sits about 3/4" stern heavy in the water empty of gear at the dock. The bottom of the bow...
It is!
I'm really happy with the boat. Tom Hill did an awesome job designing it. Here are a few more pictures from the 1st weekend out on the water.
...
Borrowed a laser level from a friend to tape up the waterline. It worked really well. Didn’t have a tripod so catalogs worked great for adjusting the height of the laser. Today I’ll put the first...
Launched the boat on Saturday, June 8th!! Everything went really well. The boat does great with the 25hp motor. I didn't push the motor to hard but did get it going just over 23 kts! early Sunday...
No mounted running lights yet. I haven't been able to find any that I like. So for now I'm just planning on using the battery operated LED kind until I can find some I like.
Hey Jeff,
I don't think I'll have off the weekend of the boat show. So far I can't get any vacation coverage. I'm going to try and plan on next year. Right now I'm just trying to figure out how...
Motor is mounted!! I still have to install the battery, bilge pump, and cleanup wiring in the center console. If the weather improves hopefully I'll launch the boat on Sunday to determine the...
Can't argue with you. I couldn't find a better looking flat bottom skiff out there. Tom Hill really did an awesome job designing this boat.
Already for the motor. Waiting on the dealer at this point. Now hoping to mount the motor within the next few days. Also still waiting on the chocks I've ordered from R&W Rope.
...
I went with the 25 E-Tec. There seems to be a mix of 20 and 25's used on this boat. Tom Hill recently installed a 20hp on his and doesn't think you should use anymore. But, I've talked to a couple of...
Cricket,
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad to hear about the cleats. I think I'll just install them as is. With so much else to do I'll let Mother Nature take care of some of the work.
I've put a lot of work into my "mere skiff". I'm building a Long Point Skiff and think the boat is well worth decent hardware.
Time will tell if these cleats hold up. They are going on a 16' flat bottom skiff. I still feel they will be plenty strong even if they are the cheaper bronze.
I bought the cleats through Hamilton Marine. Now that you mentioned it I looked on line and it states they are just cast bronze. Doesn't give any more info. Hopefully they hold up. Here is the link...
Tim,
I didn't want to add two batteries because of weight. I plan on having a cover made for the boat as soon as I get it done enough to be measured. I am also going to add a small solar panel...
Can't wait to get it out on the water. Everyone I know who has one is very happy with how it handles.
Here is a picture of my wiring diagram. Hopefully it's according to code.

Mine are plan #143. I assume WoodenBoat updates the number when the make the copies.
One is for the distribution panel and one is for the bilge pump. I'm wiring the bilge pump directly off the battery prior to the battery switch.
Trying to decide if I should just mount the shiny new bronze cleats and chocks onto my boat, or if I should first try to darken them. I don't like the shiny bronze, much prefer the darker color of...
Start a thread and post lots of pictures. Looking forward to following your build. I'd love to see your bowshed. I thought about building one but the temp garage went up much faster, so thats what...
As long as I can get the center console installed and the boat road ready, the motor should be mounted Tuesday night. I'm working the next four days so I'll have to try and finish up everything...
Moved the boat onto the trailer! I painted the bottom with three coats of green "Unepoxy Plus" bottom paint. The sides will be painted after I determine the waterline. Started installing the...
Finished painting the Center Console and installed the seats. I ended up using stainless steal corner brackets and screws under the seats. They seem plenty strong, but I'll have to keep an eye on...
Looking for suggestions on how to attach the seats to the seat risers without drilling holes through the top of the seat. If anyone has any ideas I would like to hear them.
Below is Tom Hill's...
Center console is finished! That was the last piece of the boat to construct. So I can officially claim the construction is done, now everything needs to be painted. Planning on having the last...
I used almost three gallons.
Brush and roller. The barrier coat is rough but it still needs to be sanded before the topside paint.
Four coats of the barrier coat and three coats of the Easypoxy on the interior. Just about finished the center console. Hopefully I'll get the interior finished by the end of next week. I'm hoping...
I just ordered the plans, looking forward to watching your progress.
So the painting process has started!! The first coat of the Pettit Protect Epoxy Barrier Coat is on. One thing I'm not very good at is painting so this should be a lot of fun. With the boat outside...
Boat is outside!!
Cut the transom out for the outboard. I ended up using a 3/4" pattern router bit (2" Long), and made the pattern out of 1/2 plywood. The cutting was a little violent, but after...
The dealer just ordered it last week. I let him hold off a little while until he could order a couple of motors, let him save money on shipping costs. I don't need it yet so I figured might as well...
Great picture Tim!
Tim,
The Evinrude is about 177lbs, quite a bit heaver then yours.
My goal is to have the boat finished prior to the WoodenBoat Show. I would like to display it at the show. Work may get in the way, somethings have change over the last couple of weeks, but I'm...
Hey Tim,
If you get your boat out on the water before Monday let me know what you think of the 20hp. The 25hp and 30hp Evinrude are the same weight, just different injectors. The 30hp cost about...
I plan on doing as you suggested, I'll let you know how it turns out.
Finished up sanding the boat. Attached the piece of trim to the rails. I tried making half-round and that didn't go so good. I ended up making 3/4" pieces using a 45 deg router bit. The half-round...
germanreader,
I get an email each month with a link to download a pdf copy of the magazine. As a digital subscriber you should be getting the same email, if not I would ask WoodenBoat to send you...
I got a quote from my local wood supplier for half round molding made from philippine mahogany for the rails. $295.00 plus tax for (9) 10 foot long pieces. I was pretty shocked at that price. So...
I'm very concerned about fumes and the fact the furnace is in the same area as the boat. I just don't feel comfortable trying to use temporary ventilation. Someday I hope to have separate boat shed.
This is a view out my basement door!

A lot of snow has to melt before I can start building the temporary shelter I'm going to use...
I have finally glued up the center console. I did decide to add 2" to the height so the dashboard ends up being 31" high. I also plugged the holes in the stem. Next up I'll be filling screw holes...
John,
I'm going to paint using roller and brush. Thanks for all your help so far.
John,
I think I've settled on the process you use. One question I have is if you epoxy saturate the plywood prior to putting on the Petit epoxy barrier coat? I think I'll apply the barrier coat...
The more I look at the pictures I think I'm going to cut the console down to the height called for in the plans. One negative about the higher console is it's harder to see over while sitting down. ...
I gladly paid the money for the back issues on the USB drive. I also get both the print and digital issues. WoodenBoat is an awsome resource! Keep up the great work.
