    Re: Sail design.

For a main steadying sail, I would need about 150 square feet and for any kind of sailing I would need about three times as much. Readying around It seems a displacement vessel of about 20,000 pounds...

The Loop wouldn't be where I would use sail. It would be when I do the inside passage between Washington state and Alaska. The Loop would be where I would do testing when running outside in the open...

Be careful with treated woods. They can contain copper. Anything that would get fastened to it, including screws, could corrode badly in a damp environment. I rebuilt an aluminum boat that had...

    Re: Sail design.

Yes, it would be nice to have sails to help in the event of an engine out event to get to a safe anchorage or limp home. I never expected to sail to windward.
  8. Re: Looking for a set of George Buehler's Pilgrim plans

I agree. He was a good fellow.

I have the books but there's no substitute for large print plans. I just purchased Spira's San Miguel plans to start building this fall. Printed in 18x24 or 46cm x...

Beuhler liked a sail he called a modified Dhow and used it as a steadying sail on his Diesel Ducks as an emergency sail. I'm interested in using a similar design on my boat. I've researched all I can...

  23. Re: Transmssion raito, shaft and prop sizing advice

Thanks, guys for the input. I'm not building a speed machine. I'll be happy at around 6kts. More speed would be nice but not needed. When I set out, I won't have a set schedule.
