Thanks, Clark. That is kind of my plan with Forstner bit etc
Deck beam wood is beautiful! Very rich! Y>
I bought a new fishfinder/chartplotter for my small open skiff (a Cackler) and I'm making a little three sided box for mounting and to protect it from water. The roof and three sides will be...
Lil Red Rooster! Very capable looking boat. I'd bet she'd be fine in the salt. (Salt preserves, fresh water rots. )
Flip now seems worth considering. Most of the wt is in the centerboard per plans. something like 460 lbs
Congrats! I don't know if your customers send photos back but it'd be great to see some pics of this hull parting some chop underway.
My thought would be so the downhaul can go around the mast - as in from port to starboard - and thereby help keep the spar against the mast. I have my Shellback downhaul on the lug sail going to a...
attachment didn't open for me
Regarding your key story - I will share with you some sage advice or life lesson from my mother. We call it "Shirley's Rule": when you have lost something and have gone to ten different places in the...
Very pretty! Nice job.
Looks great! Tad must be pleased.
Very right about patience. Sadly the number of sailors continues to dwindle. My home port in MA has very few masts left in the harbor. All most all replaced with Grady Whites. The 70's and 80's saw...
Plug from inside on small boats.
On our catboat the topping lift was to one side of the mast (port) and the halyards to starboard. The topping lift just keeps the boom from dropping to deck/cockpit when lowering the sail. Once the...
We finally got our HIN and registration numbers! Launching tomorrow. FSR you are welcome to come - I sent you a PM. Otherwise PM me and we'll meet up sometime on the water.
Incredible journey! Thank you and Godspeed
Thanks, FSR. Mostly in the Wando. Most frustrating thing has been waiting for DNR numbers. You have to send in info on build with photos of boat in finished form & color. We did that almost 3 months...
Looking very Classic!Y>

Other project is the guides for the trailer. With those nice cherry rails don't want to use PVC guides so plan is to make something to fit around square metal tubing

other project...
Removable Box/seat. Box has four little cypress legs (stubby) which are bare so box can be put on fordeck, beach etc

Also finished oars-

Tried them out on my Cackler (which...
Well we took our pictures for registration around 4/20 and are still waiting for our numbers. So giving us some time to fit out the trailer etc.
Painted the inside, Sand from Kirby paints

I love the concept of bilge keels as long as they don't mess up tacking ability too much. Are bilge keels feasible in wood/plywood construction for the home builder? As in that 24' boat Mr Welsford...
You already have your cleat in place and it looks very nice so disregard this thought if you have already considered using a pin instead. On my shellback (and many other lug sailboats) I have the...
For my shellback trailer I replaced the longitudinal on edge 2x4 bunks with 2x6s on edge with enough of a beveled curve cut out to match hull shape. You have more planks to deal with than the SB but...
I don't think any of us can imagine building that cabin under that loft but you have done a beautiful job of it. Like building a boat in what we call the crawl space in Sepo-land. Impressive Y>
Boat looks fun. What is used to sew/lash the rudder? And does the rudder rest on a shoe or plate at the keel? thanks
Nice report! thanks
you can get a hand crank jack plate too. eliminates the battery
Topsides are finished and we are waiting on numbers and working on inside

I also feel the strange magnetic draw of that line - thanks for tip about second line!
JamesC- was that on Clark's?
I had a 25 Suzuki two stroke that I wish had never died. Replaced it with a 30 TooHotSue 4 stroke and it is lacking both in power and top end.
It would be neat to see a video of your boat from the...
Cabin top looks great! Can you tell us again what engine you have and where is the cavitation plate relative to the bottom of the hull? thanks

from that thread i linked - around page 9. Pretty nice for DIY IMO
Interesting. I've seen battery boxes before but bilge pump boxes. So the water will be directed to the box and then get pumped out? What about water outside of the box where it looks lower in the pic...
Beautiful! Floats like a feather.
Pathfinder Build In FL Keys (woodenboat.com)
The above thread author did a great job with his DIY hatches.
What's the box for?
Open doors and sunshine in the shop! Very Nice!
The Trumpet design was around 17 feet I think but one problem I found when looking at the design is that today's outboards are significantly heavier than the old which is a seemingly odd fact I can't...
for a jon boat it is nice to be able to pull the plug from the inside to drain while under way. Hard to do if your plug is outside - cam style on the inside is easy.
From your West link:
" Fully cured epoxy must be prepared by washing(see amine blush below) and sanding to achieve a mechanical bond with the next coat"
And:
"Final surface...
The learning lamp is always lit so I'm trying to listen and learn. Maybe my washing may not be very thorough - but I use warm soapy water, scotch brite pad, rags etc.
So just one more question: How...
"Oops...no" that's cute. Sanding can smear the blush around but Amine blush does not wash off Completely with soap/water. You need to sand after washing to prepare surface for painting. That was my...
I think the problem with that is that with West which is what I use you are going to have the amine blush (waxy film on fresh cured epoxy) which in my experience does not simply wash off with soap...
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the lumberyard skiff cuz that sounds like what the OP described in his post. He even mentions a sawmill being involved.
Lumber Yard Skiff — Old Wharf Dory
I agree with John B - artist really captured that moment when the boat has stopped accelerating/surfing down a wave and is just starting to drop a little speed as the forward part the hull settles...
