A Mirror is too small for a bulky almost 70 bloke like me. Truth be told, I’m not much into racing. Midweek twilights are likely to be as close as I’ll get to sailing round the buoys. In...
The NACRAs are too fast for me. I was thinking Paper Tiger.
Thanks, I thought that would be the case. And ive considered a cat and its a strong maybe, though until we decide where we are moving too its all a bit nebulous. Perhaps I'll look at trailer...
Thanks.
That sounds like the sort of boat I could handle, and importantly, doesn’t require a crew. I see few Sabres in the Sydney area but I’ve been out of dinghies for some time so may...
The power winches and bow-thruster are nice to have features….

Every time we talk about moving we have no idea where we want to live next. Moving after 30-something years is a difficult thought. I’ve just got my workshop nicely organised…

No, we sold that in 2019 as at that time I was in Singapore more than I was in Sydney. Then COVID happened…..

I shall try to participate and...
I've been boatless for nearly a year now but building up a stock of useful items for the The Next Boat. Found these listings on a local auction site.

Thanks Alan, a fantastic collection of wooden power boats - an oft under-reported wooden boat group in Australia where if isn't a Halvo it doesnt really count.
i particularly like entrant #3's...
An outstanding set of photos once again - thank you! But while amused by your rant about no-dogs-on-beach policy, it was kind of sad too to think how a minority could affect the future of an event.
No, one of those life gets in the way months.
Have sold the Halvo - a confluence of cost vs use arguments and a reasonable offer made me decide to let it go.
Now in the habit of regular perusal of...
Totally nuts. With the RRP on such an engine at about $40k it doesnt seem to come close to demonstrating that sort of value.
And while drones are in the news: Gone fly fishing: Video of angler dangling from drone under investigation
An interesting set-up. I wondered how they handled engine lubrication with a vertical sump... maybe a dry-sump type arrangement?
Also, that would be a noisy boat - aluminium boats are noisy just...

Not a Mirror, but a nice project for any boat-deprived people in South Aust.

Thanks! An excellent way to start a Monday.
I havent seen one of these for a very long time, but they do seem to have a strong Sth Aust affiliation - Sir James hardy for one - and Rolly Tasker scored a silver at the '56 Melb Olympics.

I'm guessing it's a Bugatti Atlantique replica, but some people there cars have crept in too. Bit of XK120, even a bit of Morris Minor around the cabin.
Whatever, it looks long. And not ideal for...
Two metre waves?? That must be an exaggeration, but some big wakes are definitely possible judging by the boats charging thru the channel behind.

Very very nice work, but does all that gleaming varnish make you feel:
a) youre inadequate as a painter, or
b) glad you decided to use more paint than varnish?
I'm very happy with b).
Fibre is even better if its to your premises.

Yes to both.
It was very bad - worm infestation. They love oregon planking.
Vast amounts replaced, and epoxy barrier coat applied. Pricey work, but if not bulletproof, wormproof.
That looks a lot like my Halvorsen from a year ago, except on mine it was the bottom, not the deck.
Wooden boat ownership is a real joy sometimes.
