How do they tack?
Soup cans work great; Chunky Soup holds 13 1/2 lbs of lead. We poured 80 of them.

My boat shed which is basicaly an OSB box with a high end poly tarp gabled roof has a small exhaust fan in an end wall that has run 24/7 for the last two years; this takes care of the mildew.
That is the set screw that holds the cuttless bearing in place.
About 2" forward of it there are water vent slots, one on each side; these appear to be partialy blocked in the image.
The Beismeir fence sides are plam coated baltic birch; they should not be considered sacrificial, this makes them a hazard for future operations by catching stock thats riding against them.

No he didn't!
He replaced it with a 2" glass pipe
considering your budget I would use a glass tube with cutless bearings each end and a grease nipple in between but inboard.

Too cool and beatiful.
Good on you for not hiding the steel; steel is an honest construction material.
Up here we call them "Norwegian dovetails".
He has 9 sheets of 3/8" ply.
On a 5 ton glued lapstrake -(doubled up) that's 4 1/2 sheets; or about 2 1/2 strakes out of a possible 20?
Why bother?
Use it for decking.
I had two other thoughts when I saw this besides the poetic justice.
He's lucky he didn't get stuck between van roof and the floating jet ski.
And I sure hope it wasn't his girl friend...
This is boat related because I own a boat.

What's wrong with my Chinese wool short hair rug?
I too am embarassed; but I dought it'a a BC invention.
Poetic justice
Why not just stay with 1/2" ply?
Grey Seal is 22' long in 1/2" ply and her frames are apx 29" OC; a 24' boat with frames at 24", 1/2" ply would be plenty thick enough.
G.S. has 8 strakes per...

Why couldn't you make it out of marine grade plywood instead of solid wood?
"quick" trips north for some BC home grown?
Too cool
thx

You made my morning Chuck; thank-you.
A couple possible ideas to make your painting easier:
Foam rollers.
2 or 3 coats high solids primer well sanded; in conjuction with a marine "Bondo" if req'd.
Mineral spirits lightly...

This may be what I need for GS, to get around her mizzen mast.
Thank-you

The motor compartment is 34" wide X 57" long.
The well opening is 21 1/2" X 34 1/2" and 20 1/2" from the top of the # 6.5 floor to the underside of the "lid".
The lid can also easily adjust...
great book
My Grey Seal is 4000 lbs; 40k by the time she's done?
Wouldn't surprise me...
Because that's about double my original estimate.
That's a lot of material.
Don't restrict your self to a single scarph per strake; you could easily go to the 20' range in a glued lapstrake....
It's 15 oz painted canvas; highly textured.
Actualy if the boat is heeled to starboard you could step slightly to the left and the hatch
would be presenting a somewhat level surface ;)
un-check this thing:
"Retrieve remote file and reference locally"
and your picture should work
Her motor well and hatch: The hatch cover is canvas, same as her deck, with Black Locust trim; sort of a "practice".

Mixing the "right amount" of epoxy has learning curve you will figure out very quickly.
Mix your resin and hardner in a container but pour it out into a paint roller tray when you are using it.

You realy want to avoid end grain gluing ( no strength).
This is just butt joins and epoxy.
However there is a 1/4" ready rod (all thread to my southern cousins) running through it about an inch...
