After looking at the website of "Crew", and reading the article, I'm left with the impression that what there is of Coronet is going to become a floating cocktail lounge permanently chained to some...
Looks like Thomas Gilmer's "Blue Moon", or a variation of it.
Here's a video showing an interior worth emulating:

Happy Thanksgiving and Holiday travels!
I am truly saddened by this. Alex was such a very open, sharing, and genuinely engaging fellow. I was a shipwright for many years in Olympia, and frequently worked on boats at the marina where Alex...
It makes a nice lip balm too. ,)
Lanolin is a viable lube for blocks. It would be disastrous for, say, wheel bearings, or anything else that sees any sort of consequential rpms or heat generation of course. I won't argue that one...

A traditional approach would be anhydrous lanolin. Gets very thick when cold, can be runny when very hot, but basically non toxic.
Posting what, where?
I appreciate the input. Thanks for the link Canoeyawl, I get the picture now. I'm doing a bit more investigation, but I'm leaning toward the Beta. All other things being equal, it's less expensive in...
Sorry John, I'm a sailor , what's "common rail"?
Yes, and at a glance, the Beta on my list is ever so slightly larger in a couple of relevant dimensions, tho not so that I think it will be a problem.

What are the pros and cons of each? I'm looking to repower. Yanmar, for me, is a known commodity to a degree, but I have no personal experience with Beta. They have a good reputation, and I just...
Really well done Jon. It looks like tremendous fun and adventure!
Beautiful.
Jonathan I was hoping you'd post some trace of your
adventure. Have the grandest of times, and stay connected. We'll keep in touch. Bon voyage!

That was lovely.
That would be an impressive piece of engineering. I wonder what the tidal influences would be in there? Perhaps not much, given it's comparative shallowness?... I
I owned one for 10 years. If it's one of the original 'glass hulls, it ought to be rock solid. Mine was solid laminate with an encapsulated lead ballast. A fantastic boat. My only complaint was that...
Jay, I would say not. Unless you kerfed one side considerably, but then you'd be in to filling and glassing... As is, coosa board is very rigid. It's basically a rigid foam board encapsulating one or...
I use that stuff all the time. It does machine like a dream, but yeah, the dust is awful. Plus, I don't like subjecting my expensive cutting tools to the glass fibers.
That looks lovely Jonathan. Julia is a stunner.
Hi Jonathan, I PM'd you a week ago or so about this thread. Thx
Chuck
I disagree Mr. Cleek, my copy arrived fine and I endorse the solution. That is,... if a "solution" is even necessary. I've been subscribing to one print periodical or another for over 50 years and...
Is that the latest in anti fouling? It's brilliant! Like visor tear-aways on a motorcycle helmet...
Well there's a lot of advise and opinion here. Lots good, some,...well,..fun. Amongst the long list of vehicles I've owned over the last 42 years, I've maintained max tire inflation pressures on all...
I bought a new truck this year. Drove like a waterbed. I checked the tire pressures; 36 psi. I looked at the sidewalls of the tires; "max inflation pressure - 51 psi". I immediately proceeded to...
I don't want his boat, but I'd consider asking him to write my next Craigslist ad.
A new take on the old WWII "dazzle" camouflage?
+1 re: PTF
Thanks Peter, there are so many ways to get something done. Of course the technique I used as an example wouldn't work for Mr. Madison's sample. The flange that attaches to the deck in my case turns...

I don't think I have any pics of the finished mold or part, but you get the idea.

The following board in this case is also the parting board for the flask.

Sure you can. You don't even need to use cores. Alex (Pitsligo) loves these. You can design the pattern so that it can be molded and withdrawn using only a following board as support.
Not really much to go on. You'd need a more detailed rendering of the part's construction. The picture looks like the head is fabbed from rolled sheet and mounted on a conventional deck iron. Is the...
Clever idea using the pvc.
Ha! ;)
Those look great Peter!
Thanks Alex. 98829883
The real brass ring is being able to incorporate the entirety into one pattern. Here's an oil pan I did a few years ago. All you do is add sand and go!

No Jim, the one on the right is a vent. You can also see a small one at the far end of the casting that froze off. See how the sprue is roughly square in section? I made a whole box full of preformed...
Peter I'm not sure about s.s. cores either, I've never used them. What seems to be most important is permeability of the core to gas and a certain lack of density. Go as easy on the binder as you...
Our friend Mr. Sibley asked me recently a couple of questions about making a pattern for a cowl vent. I thought I'd post my response here, as pics, if needed, are handy. Peter, you asked about wall...
These kinds of blind and bonded in fittings are annoyingly common. I'm working on a mid-eighties Hylas 44 right now who's chain plates are permanently encapsulated in the topside laminate. One must...
The voice of experience; an excellent technique.
Btw, can anyone give us a correct phonetic pronunciation of his last name?
Good is good, eh Peter?
