    Re: Sharpies "seaworthy"? come on...

uh, a 27' sharpie has a beam of what, 8'?

    A 27' catamaran has a beam of maybe 18'?

Broaches and knockdowns are VERY common on monohulls, and not just racers. Not getting water into an open...
  3. Modified Apple Pie tender build, design considerations

I stretched apple pie to make the side panels 8' long. Had to make the bow transom much narrower to fit on the foredeck of my 25 footer, it's now 2' at its widest. The widest beam and deepest rocker...
  4. Re: microballoons and no tape for a stitch and glue tender- strong enough?

I wonder if it's less work to cut up glass into little pieces and mix it into the epoxy or just save my scissors and tape the darned thing...

I have a question regarding design...
  5. Re: microballoons and no tape for a stitch and glue tender- strong enough?

Ok... How about west 406, colloidal silica? It gets 4 stars on the can for "fillets", more than any other west filler, and is a "adhesive" type filler unlike micro balloons... Also very light... And...

    Re: Sharpies "seaworthy"? come on...

Yup. I think most keelboats have an AVS of around 120, from catalinas to mini-650's, and that is generally accepted as the minimum. Of course even some boats with this AVS might have downflooding...

    Sharpies "seaworthy"? come on...

I have Reuel Parker's book on Sharpies, which is an excellent read.

  10. microballoons and no tape for a stitch and glue tender- strong enough?

I DON'T WANT TO TAPE THE JOINTS. I don't want to sand them. Wizbang makes his joints thicker on his dinghies so as not to need tape, but he uses some heavy duty filler. If I make the joints pretty...

    Bump.

heres an older pic of my boat Dave. It's a basic masthead sloop, with double lowers and a single spreader. I got rid of the fuller and do hank on now.

Re: Fastest boat under 2.5 hp outboard power?

  19. Re: ~30' proa (like Madness) - Does it make sense?

  20. Re: ~30' proa (like Madness) - Does it make sense?
