    Barney,

    Should be ok to use soft copper sheet but you might want to look at Pilot jointing which has wire reinforcing in it, much better job and probably cheaper.

    After searching on the Internet for what appears ages I am at a loss to come with anything in Australia that resembles red lead. Found red lead powder in the UK but they can't ship it to Australia....
