Outer keel strip and stringer protection

Finishing up an 8' John Gardner pram. I'd planned on covering them with strips of metal. They're made of Douglas Fir (I'm in the NW). I laid out the metal on a stringer and it didn't line up, as if...

Re: mounting oarlocks; screw vs bolt

A lot of good comments. It's got me rethinking what I want to do. A couple mentioned the socket being firmly imbedded so the mount takes the torque and not the screws. The neck of my sockets are...

    mounting oarlocks; screw vs bolt

I'm top mounting oarlocks on three inches of wood. I understand wood screws could eventually come loose and that machine bolts might be a better choice.

The other thing is the close proximity of...

    Re: clamping epoxy

I'm assuming by coating both surfaces of the wood and saturating the fiberglass I won't need to use any filler. The fiberglass will serve as a filler.

    Re: clamping epoxy

A lot of what I'm doing I'm doing for the first time. So I don't mind taking the long route. It's all a learning experience. I've thought about carving on a large block but I'm limited in the tools I...

    Re: clamping epoxy

That makes it even better. This will be my first time with fiber glass so I'm glad it'll be a small project.

    Re: clamping epoxy

I like the idea of 4oz glass. I can live with the shaping.

    Re: clamping epoxy

I thought I'd mention the oak and see if anyone would comment on it. I was planning on saturating all the glue surfaces before applying the filler and priming and painting the rest. I understand the...

    clamping epoxy

I'm laminating four 1/4" red oak pieces to form oarlock mounts. The inwales and outwales have a twist so I need to apply pressure to bend the laminate to hold that shape until the epoxy dries. My...

    Re: Sockeye in Pt Townsend

Getting ready to paint my first boat. An eight foot John Gardener pram. Where could I find some of Devlin's color schemes?
