    Re: The curse of plastic

It is a pain, and the beverage stores fought the legislation, passed in the 1970s. It was also one of the most popular bills for the general public ever passed by the state legislature. Might add...

    Re: The curse of plastic

The deposit required on cans and bottles in Michigan has done a good job of retrieving most bottles and cans. Dunno why it isn't a national phenomena. At ten cents a can or bottle, a lot of people...
  3. Re: Why is violent crime so rare in Iceland?

Reykjavik is plagued with one or two murders a year. Windsor generally goes two years or so between murders. It's about the same size city. Windsor also has legalized prostitution and pot, was...
  4. Re: Why is violent crime so rare in Iceland?

Might also add that Reykjavik is far more dangerous than Windsor, Ontario.
  5. Re: Why is violent crime so rare in Iceland?

Might note that Iceland is only twice as safe as Mexico City, which is twice as safe as the U.S.

Re: Sales tax in internet purchases

It does have to be complicated. It's in the state constitution that the tax department has to be obtuse, obstinate, and complicated. Simple, straightforward operations are against the law.

    Re: Build then circumnavigate

I guess I might add that the reason my friend decided to rennovate a used boat was that they are so cheap you can't even buy the materials for the same cost. He ended up selling it in Australia...

    Re: Build then circumnavigate

A friend built two boats, circumnavigated in both, then for a third effort bought a used boat and refurbished it. I think he did about five voyages around the world in all.

    Re: Tesla

You do have to go through a dealer, but you don't have to haggle about the price. The dealer would be quite happy, as would the manufacturer.

It happens here fairly often, although most houses are too far away from the water;s edge to end up with much more than a pile of ice in the yard. Has been a few years, though.
