She will be a right proper boat. Good luck!

Give some thought to the practical aspects of getting the boat from TN to WA/BC and back again. Other than that, go for it!
I will be spending more and more time in/around Boone, NC. Give me a...
Build the case in at the correct time. The board won't interfer with rowing. You will have enough leftover plywood for the case, board, rudder, etc. if you order right. That will actually save you...
Sunday the 18th @ 6pm CDT.
oops. Sorry. That was over here. In the Colonies.
Saw it. Enormous waste of time & money. Penelope Cruz couldn't save this dog.
A tent over the cockpit area would allow for weatherproof cooking/lounging/stretching/etc. Sleeping below. I also look at all the room in the boat and wonder why there is no waterproof sleeping...
I extracted a promise from Mrs. Wayne.
1. I agreed to practice cruises along the Gulf Coast. Summer 2013.
2. I can spend as much time as I like exlporing the Inside Passage. Spring/Summer 2014.

A good track record of solo and double handed voyaging.
OK, rerun post. The boat deserves mentioning twice.
James is no doubt right. Again.
That is the system that John Guzzwell used aboard Trekka. We all know how well that arrangement worked for John and Trekka.
There are better pulling boat designs for a solo rower than a dory....
Brian,
Thanks for the prodding. I am already old. The boat has been waiting for too long. Reality sucks. I can't get there until I can retire. Or quit work and Just Do It.
I will get there. One way...
Shop carefully and the 30 footer may come with a dinghy.
Is Oughtred's Humble Bee out of the running? It's size is in between the Mouse & Granny Pram and would be easier to stow on deck than the Granny Pram.

Paul Gartside has a lobsterboat style hull about the right length....
Thanks for the local knowledge! I have been wondering if there were a good side to the trip up north. You answered my question!
Various charities accept boats all the time. Call one of them and ask what they do for the donor. That isn't exactly your question, but it might be informative.
Good luck. I hope you find a boat that is perfect for you.
A paddle gets my Caledonia yawl, Elisabeth Grace, to/from the dock. I row for fun sometimes. Getting an outboard on ANY double ender is a P.I.T.A. It can be done. It does work. Transoms work better....
Loon with three pvc bows, covered with a home made nylon tent. Note the mizzen moved forward to the reefed position which clears the cockpit for living space. The floor boards, aft, lift up onto...

Conestoga wagon type cover. Lightweight nylon for the canopy. PVC, fiberglass or aluminum hoops. Sockets around the perimeter for the hoops. Search this forum. There are examples.
A skinny skin on frame boat would seem to be the answer.
Very nice looking boat Dave!

Since you will probably have an outboard for power, get one with electric start.
Thoughts rumbling around my brain...
I think SO needs a motorboat and you need a sailboat towed behind the...
I missed the Hamburg location initially.
Tell us about the ferry. How often? How much does the trailer add to the ticket price? Is there also a height limit? Will the boat on top of the vehicle...
I'm wondering why you didn't use local cedar for walking and sitting surfaces?
Norwalk Island Sharpie 18. Only one sail to fool with.
Thanks. I applaud your work with unthugs. Keep at it.
There is workboat built and disposable boat built. I wouldn't trust my family in something like you describe. Sorry. That's how I feel about boats.
Good luck. Have fun! that's the important part.
There are scads of 18' trailer sailer boats out there. Add a small 4-stroke outboard. Instant motorsailer. Teach your SO how to operate the motor. You are good to go.

HUGE CONSIDERATION: Sheer. How far below horizontal will the stem be? How much of your windshield will be obscured by the bow?
Rebecca Ann is proper work boat stock. Tested. Proven. Broke in. Ready to. In your neighborhood. Roughly 50% of cost to build new.
I don't care. Cartopping a boat of this weight and volume is dangerous, foolish, P.I.T.A., unmanageable without several people at both ends of the loading/unloading/loading/unloading round trip. Over...
Having cartopped a 17' x 3' x 75 pound canoe I can say, without fear of contradiction, buy a trailer. This size and weight boat would be ideally suited to the small trailers intended for jet skis....
Or you could just go buy Rebecca Ann and start having fun immediately.

When I know for sure when I get there, I'll spill the beans. It won't be 2012. It won't be long after 2012 though. I'm way overdue.
That thought crosses my mind almost daily.
Bump.
Stand by. We are talking again.
I'm glad I have some help. :D  Y>
Half a wishbone works as well. I don't recall what the lumber is.

Aye! That is exactly what Caty Grace and I do. Elisabeth Grace is partly named in her honor.
General internet wisdom says that a beamy, full bottom girl like the Caledonia Yawl is a beast to row. Maybe. If you have a sleek pulling boat hull, a.k.a. Rowen, alongside for immediate comparison....
This works. Iain Oughtred's version of the balanced lug foresail and sprit mizzen. He has a whole series of boats with various hulls below this rig. Works for me and many, many other happy owners.

Random trivia...
1. Excluding expendables, it takes the same amount of stuff for a long holiday weekend as it does for a month or longer.
2. Rowing a loaded camp cruiser for any distance should...
This will come as no surprise.
The Caledonia Yawl. Just do it.
OK, a bit of supporting evidence. As the owner of the first edition of The Dory Book, I lusted for a dory since forever. When it...
You need more water. And tankage for grey/black water. Fresh water turns to holding tank water.
Elisabeth Grace

You don't. The one annoying problem with this arrangement.
Thanks to Paul for bringing this to my attention.
