I would think that any epoxy in the mold would stink of toxic epoxy juju.
burning epoxy is just awful smelling, you have enough to worry about with the molten lead and its' slag stank.

yea , filled epoxy. one does not use bungs in ply .
But you may as well grind off all the paint first, it will just get in the way of cleaning the epoxy off.
But you may as well replace that...
