We had another great Big Lagoon Messabout starting last Wednesday through Sunday, even though the winds kicked up for most of Thursday and Friday. Craig and Vicky brought Wee Bonnie up from San Luis...
Hope to see some of you folks up at Big Lagoon. Before leaving home be sure to check the status of the campground, but so far it looks like it is open and quite busy.

I sand the varnish a bit and use PL Premium on slightly dampened leather.
I've rowed and sailed my hand-me-down CLC Eastport Pram for a year or so and like it quite a bit, but my experience with prams is limited and I
can only compare it to a Sabot and small dory.
I have nameplates for my Caledonia Yawl and since it gets used for some historical reenactments, I want to cover the already-applied CF numbers at times.
So my nameplates / boards mount with very...
I've also used a support beam with straps to the boat, lifted and lowered with a chain hoist, but systems like that can be complex and dangerous if you don't get everything **exactly right**. And...
Build a cradle from scrap wood and/or cheap 2x4's, stick some carpeting on the cross pieces, then roll the boat over on it. Put some locking casters / wheels on each support leg so you can move it...

Use bolts with nuts and washers to hold the blocks onto the gunwales, as screws will pull loose over time. Don’t as me how I know this. ;-)
Try it and see, you can always add one later unless you drive the boat so hard it comes apart.
Great choice of design, and nice photos!
Thanks, everyone! We’re as ready as we can be for the recovery process. I even added handrails and a concrete sidewalk to the dog ramp
Post photos and let us know how it works out over time. I'd put reflectors on those guide posts and use a light bar, as dunking any sort of wiring in salt water doesn't seem to work out very well.
I've been actively sailing my Caledonia Yawl "Goblin" for several years and it seems like it would meet your requirements, including the number of passengers when motoring or sailing in very light...
I'm sure it will work out just fine. Overbuilding is more the rule than exception for new builders, and the weight won't matter much unless you plan on cartopping the boat. If possible I'd delay...
My blushes! I have done a lot of rowing in my Cosine, but may not deserve all that much approval. ;-)
I do get some flexing of the gunwales when pulling hard, and might suggest adding a small...
Someone else built my Cosine, but I've replaced the forward and center thwarts, leaving out the rear thwart, as the sternsheets work fine for having someone sit aft.
No knees on top of the thwarts...
Score - what a great boat!
Big Lagoon in Humboldt with friends, mostly from the SF Bay Area.

Pretty darn bad -- run, boy, run! ;-)
Check out this thread on that exact topic - http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthread.php?170881-Decked-Gentry-Ruth
How about Gentry's RUTH -- a lovely design.

Using a material that hardly any boats use doesn't make things simpler, but hey, it's your boat. Use HDPE if you can get it thick enough.
What are the width limitations for trailered boats in Italy? That might determine which design you select. Catboats tend to be very wide for their length as well as heavy, so your tow vehicle will...

Depending on the lapstrake/clinker ply design you select, there can be a LOT of work with solid wood -- trust me! :D The interior of my Caledonia Yawl is mostly solid wood, as are the spars,...
You could order and install a US receiver if you don't tow with it. These guys may have a UK -> US receiver adapter of some kind. Don't know if it would pass MOT, mind you... ...
As above, Skin On Frame (SOF) designs can look very traditional, with lightweight solid wood used for inwale, outwale and other structural pieces that are what everyone sees and touches in the boat. ...
Nice report and great photos!
Prepare yourself for sticker shock on the SB carriage bolts! Also check Hamilton Marine as they sometimes have better prices and will sell some fasteners singly rather than requiring you to buy the...
The hose is a great idea, I'll try that if the nylon starts to come off or if I need a wider tip.
I went with PL Premium and some scrap nylon line -- we'll see how that works.67347
Opinions vary widely (and wildly) on this topic. I'd say that overall most will agree that the primer should bond to the fully cured CPES just fine, and that's what you should go with.
But,...
Sadly the tips have to stay separated, as the two bars fold down against the step first, then the modified leg (lengthened) folds down between the two bars. This lets the whole thing fold fairly...
I'm adding standoff / brace legs to my commercial boarding ladder, as the stock ones aren't nearly long enough to hold the ladder vertical against the curved hull of my Caledonia Yawl 'Goblin'. To...
#5 is roughly the way both of my lugsail boats are rigged, minus any sort of block on the gunwales. None of these require a lot of pressure to hold, and the smaller one has no cleat for the...
Wooden sawhorse with a 2x6 screwed to it, leaving enough room for a 5 gal bucket to fit under the prop. Use it all the time. You'll of course want to run it completely out of gas before storage.
I had a very traditional copper-riveted lapstrake fir over oak Chamberlain Dory Skiff for 15 years and didn't have a lot of problems dealing with dry-sailing it off a trailer. Will you keep your...
I needed to make two curved tiller extensions, one for my CY 'Goblin' and one for the CLC Eastport Pram tender 'Imp'. Last month I just drilled a hole in the pram's tiller and loosely lashed a...

Both adults rowing at the same time?
I sail a Caledonia Yawl and you really don't want to row that very far, particularly against any sort of wind or tide. Oughtred has a number of similar...
Looks like a practical and still attractive solution -- bravo!
Very nice! More pics, please sir.
Well Canoeyawl really knows a lot about wooden boats, and works in the marine trade so his advice is quite good. My advice to store upside down is from seeing a number of small wooden boats ruined...
Upside down on a cradle or saw horses for sure. Build or buy a roof frame if at all possible to allow the tarp to shed snow and NOT be touching the hull. Check tarp frequently.
...
You could trim the 2x4 down enough to take sections of large PVC pipe on each side -- let them rotate independently. Pipe sections can be held on with the bolts in the ends of your 2x4 that keep the...
I'm too lazy to dig my canoe loader out for a better photo, but I replaced the entire top horizontal bar with a longer/wider SS bar, putting raised bolts through the ends to keep the boat from...
