    The forestay seems to continue up past the hounds/wing assembly to the masthead...

    I'd guess the strut wouldn't help much as a pull point for mast bend - it might behave...

    My FIL cuts them in half and mounts them in a ply-backed frame for pinboards. One or two corks are removeable (held in by friction) to conceal screws for fixing to the wall. Looks great.
