That's it. I'm building another boat.
Jim, I like hearing more about Damfino, and I really like seeing pics (hint, hint). How about a new thread explaining your experiences with the Ljungstrom?
Cheers, Jack
Hi Sodbuster, I think Mike Monies (the red Scamp guy) is building one now. I've seen him around the forum here, but he's also involved in Duckworks and Small Craft Advisor forums. He might have a...
He'll find himself in treble fishing for bass in that.
That's seriously funky.
The forestay seems to continue up past the hounds/wing assembly to the masthead...
I'd guess the strut wouldn't help much as a pull point for mast bend - it might behave...

Boatbuilders get to play with the best toys! I remember seeing Richard Remsen's article about bronze casting in WB 130, and wanting to try it then, too. Great vid, thanks AJZimm.
Jack.
Don't see what the fuss is about - looks just like my roof rack tie-down technique.
Wish I'd used a scale - sometimes full pumps were more than I needed for repair or minor jobs, and I've thrown a fair bit of epoxy away.
I use Boat-Cote, an Aus brand, and have had good results...
What was it - about 11-12 minutes from start to Zulu buoy? Pretty impressive.
Coverage was pretty cursory as usual - a grudging tv 'tradition', between the pretentious whiskey ads and current...
There was a great article some years ago about the Sano family boatyard in Japan, with an update earlier this year. It's great to see articles about individuals from very different boatbuilding...
Here's Pete/Epoxyboy's yawl-rig pathfinder with cabin from this thread. Looks pretty nice.

An outboard motor in a well/slot, I think.

Of course, if you've got 10,000 corks kicking around the shop around you could make a nifty little model of the colosseum:
...
My FIL cuts them in half and mounts them in a ply-backed frame for pinboards. One or two corks are removeable (held in by friction) to conceal screws for fixing to the wall. Looks great.
Alex, you've just about hit my ideal-imaginary-boat-sweet-spot too, so I'll be watching this thread with some interest.

All of Oughtred's double-enders look (and it sounds like they sail) great, but when I look at the study plans in the catalogue I wonder how comfortable they'd be to sleep aboard - either wedged...

Hi rgbarr, I think Maynard Bray wrote an article called "Painting for Decoration" in issue 93, page 42.
It had pictures of an O-Boat, a Biscayne Bay 15, an Acorn 15, Egret, Catboat, Amphibi-Con &...
WB issue 72 had a great article by a Wayland Comberight about a tar-and-paper catamaran he and his wife built to cross the Atlantic with.

I used to launch my Sabre through surf on race days... We'd occasionally get some pretty good air-time.
There were a couple of things that made it a good boat for surf launches. It was light,...
Love the sound of those plank laps.
$1800?! She looks a million bucks. I'm sure the ghost of Commodore Munroe would approve.

Larks, I had a look at the "Australasian Kit Boats" book a while ago. I thought that it was more of a catalogue of kit manufacturers than a catalogue of kits. Each manufacturer got a couple of...
Hi Larks,
These might be a bit obvious (all are online), but the kits suppliers I know of in Aus (besides Duck Flat), are:

I like these kayak/canoe outrigger systems, but understand that there some some compromises involved in using a paddle-optimised kayak as the vaka (eg. insufficient volume & freeboard at bow).

Nice to see the decks are well sealed.
You've probably seen these, but some of Flo-Mo's 2-sheet boats look like fun.

Hi Gopez,
On transom sterned boats like the Tammie Norrie, Penny Fee, Fulmar etc the mizzen mast can be offset into the quarters, keeping it out of the way of the tiller.

I have occasionally been asked about my canoe:
