Interesting thought. Will try it next time out.
Curiously, thzt doesn't work with mine. If rowing, I have to put the 'tamer' on it to stay centered. Otherwise it swing full over one side or the other and makes rowing impossible.
On the pic in...
I saw a 20ft with a rig like that at a local show. First thing that I thought of was balance, esp as it was aimed at beginers. One of the Mags voted it 'Boat of the Year' Example on show was bare...
Here is mine, on the Whilley Tern. I bought some 20 x 3 mm ss strip and made all the fittings from that. Very strong, more or less to plan. (ignore the pins, couple of bolts just to hang it)...
I will quiz him on that.
This might help, but I notice he has not followed the drawing on the pintles

This boat will be occasionaly sailed and kept on dry land. His options were limited as in Portugal (other than CM) First big trip will be down the Guardiana river from as far up as it will float,...
He just replied:
1" brass square bar for the 'blocks', 1/8" sheet for the strapping and 5/16" rod. Made it all up and local shop did the brazing.
Close friend has just completed a Sharpie 600. Last boat he used Classic Marine, but their prices are a bit startling now. Gaff saddle at £300, so I made the lot for him. All mast fittings,...
Probably a gaff rig? Mast and spars not too long or heavy.
Impressive traditional build.
Edit: just looked the other posts.. Some excellant advice. Best take it.
Have you started yet?
If not, use an existing proven design, it will save you a lot of trouble.
If you have started, is it a traditional Greek design, or a more modern one? Traditional, you must...
Yes, it was bonkers to start with and that vid you put was quite disturbing as to his mental state.
In such a small boat, how come it started leaking so soon? And, was not noticed before?
Not really 'these', as they only built one, (pendant mode..BY:D)
This has been a treat!
Thanks, guys.
Heh Heh.. Several sources have mentioned that the French would like to exit the EU, but no way would they be allowed a vote. They
The assumed they would be running the show, but it didn't turn out...
Exactly:
When faced with a £1200 quote for my Whilly Tern's two sails, I bought the Sailmaker's Apprentice and materials from a UK outfit. Think it was £120? I do have a large loft and a half decent old...
Of course they would, but the terms would be very different. A lot of the problems have been that the EU wants to discourage any other country that thinks to leave.
Edit: crossed with RFNK
The Guardian 'might' not have my point of view.
Brexit has just recently caused us some problems, as I am no longer a a EU 'citizen', but reside in France.. In principle, I was pro the common market...
I drop into this thread occasionally to see how many angels can stand on the head of a pin.. Excellant points of view from assorted posters and a good knowledge of historical writers and theologians....
Thanks for the great photos WiTom! I spent several holidays in Falmouth back in the 50s & 60s. My Aunt and Uncle had a house overlooking Swanpool and I stayed with them often.
On the Sailing front,...
Hi, Woxbox.
Things got in the light, so didn't make the fest in Brittany, booked in next time. I have posted a couple of shots in another thread.

One point about the gunter rig. It only has the one halyard, secured at the jaws. It is held against the mast by a line secured on one side of the yard, round the mast, though a dead eye then down to...
Slightly boggling at the fix.. But, then, you have done way beyond rational work on her so far. Massif kudos from a lowly ply and epoxy builder.
Have you looked at the problems with the Herminone?...
Was it Jo Siffert who had one of his F1 cars parked vertically on a wall in his swiss house? Seem to remember a pic?
Just a question of scale....
Big auction of cars in Italy an Switzerland just coming up. Lots of Porsches with some others. Word is. That too many at one time, so will depress prices.
More drift..
I knew Billy Mitchel's...
That is the big worry.
I might be wrong, but didn't he pardon the builders that broke the rules on skimping construction, leading to more collapses in the quake?
Back in the days of expansion and colonialism, religion was a handy tool to justify looking for places to loot. Esp S America with Spain & Portugal. Bringing the faith to to the ungodly (or, more to...
This is coming up more often and one can't help but think that some are exploiting it, especialy if it a tempory switch by hormones, which can be reversed.
Scarf angle should be 12:1 for masts.

My Willey Tern weighs 'ex rig) 70kg, and the trailer the same, so two passengers is about right. Your similar boat maybe 30% more? I have the same gunter sloop rig and the stays I made in wire. But,...
The concept of being affiliated to a party and that is how you vote, by rule. Is just plain odd.
When you vote, it is what you think is right at the time. Not what party you might have conned into...
The X gallows has been used for years by a friend with a little gaff rigged boat. Two blocks on the aft deck that the feet notch into. He trail sails and often drops it out on the water for bridges...
When I got hitched in '91, my brother bought me a year of WB. First thing I saw was the build of Sweet Pea, Bolger's take on a peapod? Built by Dynamite. As the son of a designer of small wooden...

Give it a break.. She was entirely unsuitable for the 'job' and he was railroaded in to marrying her. Even her grandmother said she was not right for it.

How many Safaris did they build? Way back when I had a 2CV van, the aftermarket manual covered the Safari.. (in german!)
Come clean, Martin, You are not a fan?
I might be wrong (no surprise...) but wasn't the term 'wog' coined by somebody like Michael Bentine (of the Goons) as a 'westernised oriental gentleman' so slightly different than the way I remember...

Just had this on my little 17ft Bolger derivative. After asking a couple of UK places, but a 'no' as I don't live there. I tried Panteanious, who are German, but have an office in Monaco. (That...
Friend of mine built a FC gaff ketch to Benford's 34ft Pinky design back in the early 80s complete with two square sails on the main mast. His maiden voyage in the engine-less un-fitted out boat...
I too wonder about the people who send the young to fight in far places for some misplaced idea.
My father flew fighters from 38 to 45 in France, England, and North Africa. A 'Just War' but still...
Baxter. Get a life.
Yep, I was aware about 'commercials' escaping the regs for cars on safety. 20 yrs back, the most popular 4x4 had the highest incidence of head injuries, mainly because it had a chassis. So no decent...

If that is the idea, then a small trailer makes mores sense. Virtually every French driver has at least a small box trailer. Pick ups are not that common. Workers use vans or trucks.
I had a Ford...
