    What Ron said. Whenever possible, retract so no piston is exposed, but also make sure buckets don't sit full of water. Hydraulic oil's probably bet as it repels water and is compatible with itself....

    I always keep my saw in top shape & touch up the chain every tankful - not to brag, but I can put a better edge on a chain than a shop ground one with a file. I also always plan an easy/clear escape...

    The TDI Jettas had plenty of oomph & would get over 50MPG on the highway. On a trip to Maine one summer, I purposely kept the speed to 65 max & drove it carefully. Got 58.
