I started drawing out the Ganymede in the family room floor on paper, and it is a big kayak for an 11 year old.
We decided some thing smaller was in order.
I have ordered a set of plan and manual...
This has be outgrown, so is listed for sale.
The proceeds of which will go into a full size Ganymede build.
Photo's from last weekend.

Shiny black sail, mmmm!

It's been awhile.
The outboard bracket has been successful. The outboard on the other hand has been playing up.
It has only run on one cylinder since the dunking (probably related).
There was no...
I like that plane too.
I stopped myself from pursuing old hand planes a few years ago, just before it got out of hand.
Loving this thread and these metre boats generally.
One I was watching sank...
I just used an air impact gun to get the flywheel nut off and back onto my 15hp Mercury.
Simple operation!
Looking "right" beats following the drawings every time in my mind.
From what you are finding, I'm thinking the sheer or deck camber are not built to plan like you say.
Going slow at this stage is...
I checked Composite on mine 15 years ago too.
It is wood, glass covered, with steel keel and floors at the time (the steel floors got replaced with wood).
Sounds like composite to me.
I would use the epoxy as needing compound, then the hole is exactly the right size.
If you need to remove the tube for any reason, a bit of heat will release it.
I would put it right at the bottom...
My "new" race boat cockpit has similar strips of teak, but nowhere near as well executed.
The grip is awesome when heeled, with anti skid paint between them to stop skidding along them.
SOLD!
I got $3800 for it, so happy days.

I replaced the spark plugs in the outboard and it started 3rd pull. Long may that continue!
I cut some plywood spacers for the transom, so the outboard can clear the scoop.

I've been tinkering away in the evenings and weekends.
She still looks the same, needing a water blast and scrub, original name on the side.
I've been concentrating on things that make her sail...
I'm trying not to go down that path, she's never going to be a looker!
The outboard mount is going to be a bit flash though with a chunk of 200 x 50 White Oak I dug out of my offcuts shelves to...
I've been working away on all the little things to get the ready for more serious racing.
Mounting fire extinguishers, installing the battery isolator and bilge pump wiring.
The sole boards are now...
I've done some smaller lead casting into steel moulds, and zinc casting into a plaster of Paris mould (only about 500g).
Spout good.
Mine is a 6kg gas bottle sitting inside a 9kg over the burner to...
That would have caused some new blue language combo's, ouch!
Before the race I met the sailing secretary who had this conundrum. I suggested that traditionally when a new boatentered it's first rum race the handicap was what it took to win. Things have changed...
A few shots of the interior, showing the generally ok condition.
The quarter berths - generous due to the wide beam at this point.

I spotted in this one a battery isolator hanging down....
I spent a couple of hours after dinner each night during the week sorting out the running rigging.
I needed to change worn out blocks and lines, luckily I have an assortment of bits and bobs that...
We were doing 8 knots GPS at 1/2 throttle with a 15 hp, so pretty slippery!
There was water sitting under the sole boards, which need replacing as they were rotten under the battery.
There is a...
I got home in one piece, taking it easy
This morning I took everything off and checked what I had.
There was a broken turnbuckle on the mast rigging diamond that I a spare for and replaced.
I...

Ready to leave Napier
If by "flotation in the stern" you mean 20 litre plastic drums under the deck, then yes I saw some lashed under there.
The tiller is about 2 metres long, so the crew obviously need to stay in the...
Garrett, we can hold our breath on that thought, probably about as long as it will last.
It does look like a mishmash of sails, with the etchells mainsail number being adopted onto the hull.
I'm...
Buying boats online from a few random shots of something that looks fast and wet is fine, right?
Anyway, I'm going on a 9 hour round trip roadie to Napier this weekend to pick up a one of kind 8...
I wouldn't run lines aft either.
My yacht (45 foot) has winches on the mast and boom for halyards, reefing and mainsail shape control.
If you are solo, all tasks can be achieved at the mast.
If...
There is a couple of spots where you can walk to Pelorus sound over the Ridgeline in about an hour.
This is the view from the saddle,...
On Tuesday I was sitting on a club mooring in a cove in Tory Channel having grilled cheese on toast and fresh coffee for lunch.
Contemplating a swim, the full reality of the fact that I had to be at...
My problem is that I've lost weight after changing the engine, so the stern is sitting about 40 mm high and bow down about 30.
My next project is rebuilding the stern lockers, so I'm thinking heavy...
Today;
I finished the fridge install and ran it for the day to see how much power it was going to use, seems OK at this stage,
did some more carpet laying, one piece to go,
all the contents of...
Today, I sanded the glass (which I also filled over the top yesterday while still wet with the medium weight fairing compound. It is stronger, so can take traffic better than the lightweight stuff.)...
Thanks for the encouragement.
I've had a Fein branded multitool for a long time now.
It was still under patent, so no competition was available.
The battery operated Bosch one is awesome, you can...
Today I sanded the towel nook and got a coat of varnish on it.

I then started on a unexpected job to repair some rot in the ply of...
Today I got the sliding towel rack mounted and glued the Kauri trim around the box in place.

I also;
got the chain and anchor...
Entry steps complete and the engine box painted/varnished.

There is still a piece to fill in over the raw water filter that is...
The framing timber was purchased along with a sheet of Meranti 12mm.
7 cores of equal thickness, none of this 0.5 mm A grade veneer on the outer surfaces.
Yesterday I sat down and wrote a list...
That top layer of the ply looks pretty thin.
Is it the same thickness as the inner cores?
I'd be pretty pissed off with that after the work that has gone in.
Yep, I'm thinking if it's twisted after cutting it will keep doing it.
Harder to see much when rough sawn too.
The grain is all over the place too, so hard to use edge tools with any decent...
I got a 3600 mm piece of 260 x 55 Iroko to make the hatch surrounds out of.
It had a bit of a bend in it, but as I didn't need 55 thick I thought I could plane it straight to get the thickness I...
I'm about a month away from the almost annual trip to the Marlborough Sounds on Haumuri, but am pretty casual in my prep at this stage.
I'll need a quick lift and scrub as a minimum, install new...
Here is a link to a company that is in commissioning trials of a new electric commuter ferry for Wellington.
There are nice shots of it on the harbour.

I used some Norski epoxy putty to seal the bung holes in my paper tiger.
It is a cool product, very firm and moldable with gloves on to cove into corners.
I use West usually, but if I have also used protective paints products.
They have epoxy and, don't say it too loud red lead paint.
They are also located between my house and the boatyard.
Fine sand in the last coat of varnish will do it for you.
It is a time honoured method that I spent days sanding off the deck of my sailboat Haumuri.
It was embedded in paint and only had to come...
PCford is correct with where the work is.
I used a Wagner style spray gun that cost $30 to spray some varnish.
Fast and better finish (than my patience availability and skill level allow with a...
For the amount of work you have to do I would;
Grind /sand to shape,
passivate with acid,
then polish with pads/paste in a bench grinder.
I've done small pieces with a Dremel in the past, but...
Seen it, looking good for ongoing entertainment.
Final shots.
Back in the car going to the boatshed.

And some paddling shots....
Varnishing the trim seemed to take forever!
Anyway it is all on, with the original countersunk SS screws reused.
I just put a dab of goop on the screw penetrations rather than slathering the...
