There are dozens of small loggers and saw mills in northern Wisconsin and Michigan's U.P. that cut northern white cedar. Andreas
Cool boat. I have never seen a lapstrake runabout with the planking running and curving up to the deck at the bow. Kinda cool. All those that I have seen have the planking running parallel to the...
Thompson Boat Mart at Minocqua could have been the source for your boats at Arbor Vitae. They were a marine dealer owned by brothers Roy and G.Grant Thompson. They sold boats made by Thompson Bros....
The laminating plant at Peshtigo just sent a new glued laminated timber mast to the Sullivan, the second in the past few years. The original solid white pine log masts have decayed.

A local TV news station in Minnepaolis did the auto thru the ice submersion test recently on Lake Minnetonka. Actually had one of the reporters drive an auto thru a big pre-cut hole in the ice. And...
Glued laminated white oak hs been utilized for ship and boat keels and frames and other members for decades with great success. Use the proper adhesive and gluing conditions (temperature, moisture...
I would be frightened by the seller's statement in the ad about it being stored in a climate controlled warehouse. Sould like heated. That is BAD for a wooden boat. Dries it out like crazy. And there...
Chrysler engines were often used in runabout and utility speed boats by all sorts of builders: Chris-Craft, Century, GarWood, HackerCraft, etc... I have one in my 1963 Thompson Off-Shore 20'-6"...

I think you have more issues than just open seams and cracks. I suggest you remove the splash well and remove the veritical interior boards of the transom. Take a look at the inside of the transom.

I raced on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, MN for three summers. I was floating crew on M-16 scows. I'd jump on a boat that needed crew. I mostly alternated between two diffeent skippers. It was a...
congrats!
I have been attempting to find someone to save this boat for the past few days. No one has stepped up. The owner says he is going to cut it up by this weekend if a buyer does not come along.
I...
Welcome aboard! Yup, the glass is probably not factory original.
Mr. Ole Lind worked at Alexandria Boat Works (ABW) under Boat Erickson in Alexandria, MN. Lind parted ways, with the full blessing...
Definately do NOT wrap it in shrink wrap stuff. That will promote moisture remaining in the encapsulated "tent" you have created. Rot will be likely. Mold and mildew almost assured.
Andreas
Very kool. But "telegraph poles" ?? he must have a way back machine and gone back to the 1850s???
There were a bunch in Menominee, Michigan a few years ago. No idea if any are still there.
Andreas
I agree. NO to epoxy in the bottom joints.
Have you looked thru the discussion forums of the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club? www.chris-craft.org
From the hull ID you can obtain a copy of the...
nice!
I fully advocate requirement for "operator's license" for boats. There are none in Wisconsin and Minnesota for anyone over age 18. Probably the same in Michigan. There are HP restrictions for under...
90,000 boats is nothing. Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. made about 300,000 boats from 1904 to 1969 when they ceased making wooden boats. Of course they continued in operation as a fiberglass builder...
Okume is a species, yes, and Hydrotek is a brand? What species is Hydrotek?

Welcome aboard. Like so many of the small outboard boat builders of that period, the boat probably did not have any hardware (lights, cleats, chocks, horn, step pads, etc...) installed at the...
Thompson Boat moved out of the facility on Ellis Avenue in 1971. They built a new factory on the other side of town and moved there in 1971. They moved from Peshtigo to St. Charles, MI in 1980. There...

Ribs and keelson and keel and stem and knees are most likely white oak. The cockpit combing and dash also look like white oak. Bead and cover strip planking is most likely Western red cedar or maybe...
I cannot see the details in the photos, after a second review, to tell if it is indeed strip built construction. Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. did offer several of their typical compressed seam, bead...
I second the thoughts on use of a heat gun and scraper. Give it a try.
If the boat spent most of its life in Wisconsin, it may be possible that she was built by one of the numerous Wisconsin...
Nice boat.
You need to remove and replace the rotten and cracked and broken wood. Don't just cover it up with goop and fiberglass.
I doubt Mr. Partee, the builder from Tennessee, had this boat...

Appears as if someone made major modifications to the original structure of your boat.
Is there fiberglass on the INSIDE of the hull? if yes, YIKES!
Yes, these are terms utilized by Thompson...
Nice work.
Do NOT fill up the limber holes with epoxy or caulk or other goop. There are small gaps between the ribs and the keelson where the ribs butt up against the keelson. This is to let water...
The flag staff was not pictured.

I just looked thru my 1966 Inland Marine Boating catalog. They were a marine dealership in Minneapolis for decades.
